I’ve replaced the terribly outdated stereo system with a new (retro look) Blaupunkt DAB head unit but the speakers in the footwells are dreadful. Any “go to” replacements that will easily slot in the Testarossa?
They come out really easy. 4 or 5 phillips screws as I recall. 2 of them are under the footwell plate.
The first question anyone has two anwer: Do you want a coaxial driver (single speaker) to preserve the visual originality of your car or you are OK with swapping the OE Ferrari tweeter for an aftermarket one - then you can go with a 2-way component system with separate tweeter.
Interesting discussion! When replacing the mid/sub speakers to something more modern why not also replacing the tweeters? The original positions are perfect for a good sound outcome, only the used OEM drivers are ugly sounding. Has anyone a good car stereo technician by hand who knows fitting modern speaker manufacturers / speaker models?
Does anyone have a removed example of an original tweeter, that we could then look for a replacement of similar size?
I have the opportunity to purchase 2 NOS tweeters for a reasonable price. PO removed originals in the past so I have nothing right now. Is it worth the hassle?
Unless you've changed the "grill" on the stock speakers, and the stock speakers themselves = you'd have no high frequency sound at all. Do you now have aftermarket speakers not covered by a perforated leather grill? Also, do you just have open holes in the dash where the tweeters mount (that alone would motivate me to put something there -- but it is a significant project hassle to get a US dash with the knee pad apart)?
On the 512 tr the speakers are in the doors and there is no grill only carpet over them hard to believe I can hear them at all. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
My mistake -- didn't realize that you were talking about a 512TR in a Testarossa thread . However, my comment would be the same -- (just like on a Testarossa) the stock 512TR "grill" over the speaker doesn't have to be very transmissive because it's only intended to pass low frequencies. You'd need to either restore some sort of tweeters to the stock dash locations, or replace the stock speakers with 2-way speakers and go to a different speaker grill, to have any decent audio performance. Have you ever checked to see if someone did replace the stock 512TR speakers with 2-way speakers, but didn't realize that the grill would also need to be changed (to pass the high frequencies)?
I have a Canadian version TR, so knee pad. Any idea how hard it is to replace the tweeters in the dash?
It is much harder to remove the knee pad in a TR, versus a 512tr because you have to remove the center console first!
I meant to say Canadian TR so knee pads are absent. No knee pad at all. Just wanting to know how hard the tweeter is to replace without having to deal with a knee pad.. Sorry for the confusion.
