    Hi,

I'm currently rebuilding an engine on a '86 Testarossa.

A previous owner had given up partly through. Cutting a long story short, he had purchased a new block which came without the holes for the TDC and RPM sensors and had these drilled.

I'm not convinced that these holes are in the correct positions and want to be 100% before continuing with the build.

Therefore, if possible I would like some photos of a block with the sensors removed
so I can see what is seen through the holes or any technical info.

If anyone could assist it would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance.

The white RPM sensor should be directly over the teeth on the ring gear of the flywheel. The black TDC sensor should be ~15 mm more rearward towards the end of the block flange. I (roughly) measure the distances as:

from end of block flange to white RPM sensor centerline = 28 mm

from end of block flange to black TDC sensor centerline = 13 mm

For the angular positions, you could probably measure the flywheel figure shown on page D6 in the TR WSM.

Agree that the position of the main center hole for the RPM sensor from the end of the block is probably OK (but might be off a bit angularly since it doesn't seem to be well centered in its cast boss) and that the main center hole for the TDC sensor will best be relocated, but the tapped holes look a little wonky too -- not in line with the center hole and not equally spaced from the corresponding center hole.

You may also need to machine the height of each boss -- the distance from the end of each sensor when mounted to the the highest part of what it is sensing should be 0.5-0.7 mm per figure 5 on page D6.

Sorry to stray.... but it strikes me as strange.

Why would a casting not come with these critcal holes pre-drilled?

Thanks again Steve for the detailed info, we've taken several measurements and studied the page in the WSM as advised. We believe not only is the alignment is correct, but also found that the TDC hole that has been drilled is not even straight!

Vincenzo, agree it is strange and why they weren't drilled is still a mystery.
