For some reason I used a little high temp sealant when I changed my thermostats about 5 years ago. The housing weeped at the seam slightly afterwards. Now it is time to address the issue as my engine is about to go back in.

Can I assume that my sealant idea was just a dumb idea? Does anyone else use a small amount of sealant when they install new thermostats? Obviously both seals and thermostats will be new when I put it together.

Never. Factory uses no sealant and we never had issues with how they did it. Cannot improve on perfection.

Thanks. Proof a good design can be defeated by misguided good intentions.

only a little bit silicone sealant ( RTV ) will not be a mistake and wait 2 days until really dry before putting in coolant. but you do this with engine out then it is enough time to dry.
but also have a look at the drain plug - thread ok? ( 10300240, 130282 )and the gasket ( 10297760 )
