    Dear Ferraristi,

I took the throttle bodies apart as it was more thorough cleaning. The gaskets are still available from Ferrari and the nuts are standard stainless steel nylocks with wave washers. The nylocks use the white insert instead of the yellow. I suspect Ferrari was supplied the complete assembly from Bosch.

    Yellow Nylocks.

Yellow Nylocks are a Ferrari specific nylock. I was trying to search for the source and spoke directly to the manufacturer through one of my industrial fastener suppliers.

As soon as I asked for the yellow, he said...Ferrari. I asked how he knew and told me that there are certain OEM specified fasteners. Ferrari's color is yellow and has nothing to do with any kind of spec. You cannot buy a yellow nylock insert unless someone is selling you something on the side or a defective batch.

    Dear Ferraristi,

    ...still scrubbing...

Time to clean out the throttle body linkage. Whow..that grease is dry and hard packed!

I cleaned out the linkage with carb cleaner and my toothbrush. Since I haven't heard of a good replacement for white lithium grease, I put fresh grease with a Qtip and made sure nothing went beyond the edges.

The linkage is an interesting design. You don't "snap" it on but undo the back end..which is held by a cotter pin. When cleaning out the backing cap, I put a dab of white lithium grease and screwed it back in until tight against the ball. I then backed off the cap until the linkage moved freely with no back-and-forth play.

    Dear Ferraristi,

    ....back to the fuel injection....umm...yeah..

I tried cleaning the 1/6 fuel distribution unit to death. It's still binding and the meter plate does not pop up like the 7/12.

I went ahead and decided to take it appart...nothing to lose right??.. :D

Now with it open, I could really clean in there. I put some PB Blaster on the pivots and let it soak overnight.

    hmm....still binding....

    Dear Ferraristi,

OK, no good on the spring....

Dave H mentioned on the pivot under the circlips and aluminum cover is a ball bearing and spring.

OK, I removed the circlip, cover and with my lighted magnet, pulled the ball bearing out. I've put some PB Blaster in the pivot cavity and will leave it overnight.

I doubt it will do any good but it's worth a try. The other side of the pivot is unaccessible as it's under a module with no screw attachments.

The only other thing to remove is the distributor itself, swap it with the other side and see if it's binding in the distributor.

Any suggestions or tips would be helpful. Dave H was rather surprised that a good cleaning didn't free up the meter plate.

    ....ran into Julie (22)

Hey bloke, I've run into issues where the metering plate has shifted slightly causing it to not really bind, but just not be as 'fluid' to the touch as the other side. I released the plate by the central nut and using feeler gauges I reset it to be exactly in the centre.

There were the lightest of abrasions where the edge of the plate had been in contact with the wall so a very light polishing by hand with some emery paper sorted that, just don't take any material off. Reset the central position of the plate and then try it.

It's easy to remove the two distribution units and you can set these upside down on the bench and press the central pin down. If one is different to the other I'd be very suprised as there is sweet f#@k all in the way of moving parts in the head that can bind up.

Keep up the good work, oh...and by the way, good thing you are spending all this time off the dance floor cleaning that flthy old car, it sure needed it!!! LOL.

    Dear Ferraristi,

    Hey Uzz!

I don't have a problem with the meter plate touching the sidewall. It's very well centered. It just doesn't come all the way back up to the top and bounce a couple of times like the other side.

It feels like it's binding in the pivot or if the pin that goes inside the distributor itself is the cause.

If I hold the unit at an angle ( to accentuate the counter-balance weight) the meter plate pops right back up and bounces. As soon as I level it....as it would sit in the car, it won't pop back up and sticks.

Do you think it's something in the distributor head? Tomorrow, if the pivot is still binding...that's the only place left to go. I can't gain access to the other side of the pivot as it has a module stuck on the outside. I can't see a way of taking it off without breaking the plastic....can it be removed?

Dirty TR?? The only way you can make my TR dirty is to have strippers all over it...umm wait... you're right...my TR is a very dirty Ferrari...:D
