After sitting only a couple months indoors, the car has become verrry difficult to start. Turns and turns and turns, tries to run, has fire, has fuel [smells raw fuel when cranking] has compression. Will run for a second tops, then back to crank crank crank. Pressure from both banks out the tips.

OK -- that means you have a KE-Jet injection system. First, I would say that you should confirm/deny spark on both banks during starter motor cranking (like with a timing light) before futzing around with anything else. If you've got spark, and the symptom is = it seems to fire up on the first cold cranking event for a second, but then will just crank and crank after that without re-firing at all = I'd investigate if the protection relay is working or not (if you search on "red wire protection relay" you should get a bunch of prior threads with diagnostic instructions). If that isn't your symptom, please reclarify the behavior.
