Good news https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classic-car-tyres/ferrari/testarossa.html 16" tyres back in stock
Curious what the advantage is of the Michelin at $1800 for a set versus BF Goodrich for $530 off of Tirerack. It's not like anyone is driving their TR's hard enough that the Michelins will be worth $1300 extra and the BFG's have a higher speed rating to boot (ZR).
Exactly. When Mich forced me to source 16" wheels I sourced 4 BFG tires for them for the price of 1 Mich. No way anyone is gonna convince me the Mich's are worth the absolutely stupid money they are asking for them.
But were the Mich tire options pilots back then? I assume it was some older Mich with a totally different tread pattern.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the cars with 16" wheels originally come with Goodyear Gatorbacks or something like that?
Actually u are correct ! I am wrong at least at 84 Paris show they were good year Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm having the Bfg tires put on tomorrow. Have Dunlop SP2 on at present but the tires are 16 years old!!!! Even so, held up very nicely to 161 mph
Yep. But I checked over the tires - no splits, no cracks. The saving grace is also very little miles. Visual checks and road test prior gave no anomalies. So, what the heck, the gods were smiling
They do ship to the USA, and it's free. Subtotal $1,655.10 Shipping & Handling (Standard Shipping - Shipping times: UK = Next day; Europe = 3-4 days; USA = 6-10 days; Other = Varies) $0.00
Evil Knievel himself would not even attempt that stunt !! 161 mph on 16 year old tyres... WOW !! Problem is that most of the deterioration on old tyres are hidden inside the carcass and with the belts, not so much on the outside when you can see. Glad you lived to tell the tale.
Rossy thanks for that video. that is great bit of history. What was best in the day Goodyear or Michelin. I'm afraid my money is on Michelin. I might point out that Michelin do still make the best tyre in the sizes. the reason to buy the Michelin now is because of the handling. https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classic-car-tyres/ferrari/testarossa/255-50yr16-michelin-pilot-sport.html https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classic-car-tyres/ferrari/testarossa/225-50r16-michelin-pilot-sport.html The only reason currently to buy anything else is if they are cheaper.
For those that are interested Pirelli have made some period 16” P-Zero tyres for you guys. I haven’t received them quite yet. I believe it will be a couple of weeks. They will be on here when I get them. https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/pirelli-collezione.html
