Dear Ferraristi, ....I guess the "gang" just likes stuff that fits. I bought the OEM $400.00 per side trim rubber....so I don't have a "dog in the hunt" here. ...lot lizards? are they under 24? Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
Well Im glad that your proud of your $800 purchase! Now that I have once again been made aware of your wealth.....It's boring. As to the weather stripping available at 1/4 the OEM cost..........That works for those of us that are NOT dependent on the short skirt pulled up and their head in our laps as they admire the overpriced OEM door seal that they see in between gulps...........LOL
Dear Ferraristi, Bawhahahahaha! Kerry, you're very funny when you refuse your medication ! Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
Dear Ferraristi, "We love Shamile's OEM TR door trim rubber.....he's sooooo hot!" (1st place 12 Cyl.class Ferrari's at St. Armands Sarasota 2008) Interviewer: Shamile, you came in 1st in a very tough category (12cyl class )with 48,000 miles.....how did you do it? Shamile: I owe it all to the OEM door trim.....yeah, $800.00 to the F pimp was worth it! Kerry was right....short skirt pulled up admiring the trim between gulps. Interviewer: who's Kerry? Shamile, If the seals that Kerry has obtained is the same as the ones I managed to find over here in the UK then they WILL work. They are just not a thick as the original. P
OK, I've been following this thread with great interest since it began because this item is on my to-do list. But even after the recent flurry of activity I'm left confused - though I was happy to finally get to see girls fawning over Shamile's other car for a change. So my question is whether the consensus here is: 1. The stuff Kerry is acquiring might possibly have sealing issues due to its profile. and 2. The Ferrari stuff, as used by Shamile, will seal OK but does not have the original felt. Hoping that we could at least clarify things without starting some big flame war here. Well, maybe for the next couple days.
Dear Ferraristi, OK, I'll dare to talk the talk.... 1. The stuff Kerry is using/ selling is the stuff VERIFIED by Uzzscorer that has sealing issues. He said it squashed improperly and rolled up into the door frame. He posted a few diagrams and the cross section of the seal. Uzz ( Robert ) is very experienced with the TR....has 3 of them....yeah, I don't know why either. I really take his word seriously as he is meticulous with his repairs. 2. The seals I bought are the OEM but for the 512TR. The Testarossa seal ( with the felt ) has been discontinued for awhile now. When I bought them from the F pimp, they said that is the seal for the Testarossa now. I was NOT just using the 512TR seal but this seal is being sold by Ferrari as OEM FOR the Testarossa. With all the anecdotal information in the thread, even the OP (Chairman) who needs the seals felt the "found" seal was not good enough. What gets everyone angry was Kerry went ahead to "scoop" Chairman for a group buy. Even though the seal will not suffice, Kerry is planning to sell them on evilbay. The unsuspecting TR owner will think that the seal works....it does not. This hurts all of us......because where do TR owners hang out? Fchat / TR forum of course. Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
Shamile -- Are you saying your 512TR door gaskets have no felt/velvet at all? Patrick (velocespace) seemed to indicate in this thread that the "updated" TR door seal has a "flocked velvet" rather than a "cloth velvet" (but I'm not sure what that means). I had asked Patrick (in a PM) to post a pic, but he never did: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=256576 although his website says "flocked velvet": http://stores.intuitwebsites.com/PHung/-strse-Ferrari-cln-Testarossa-fdsh-512TR/Categories.bok Cyrorunner -- If you do pursue the door gaskets from Patrick would love to see a pic/hear your opinion.
Dear Ferraristi, Steve... The 512TR seal ( now OEM Testarossa seal ) bought from Ferrari of Central Florida does NOT have any felt or velvet of any sort. It is the exact size seal that I removed but without the velvet coating. In fact when I got them, I asked if they were correct because of the missing velvet. The parts manager Doug, told me that this was the 512TR seal now being the replacement for the Testarossa. I'll take a pix and post it. It actually looks very nice and the missing felt is not really noticeable. Of course I would prefer what ever was originally there but....that's Ferrari. Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
Dear Ferraristi, The cloth velvet is actually a meshed cover /cloth glued over the rubber surface. If you pulled it off, it would come off as a cloth cover. The "flocked" velvet is the velvet material strands glued on the rubber surface. If you pulled it, you would pull velvet strands...not a cloth cover. My original seals had the cloth velvet covering and NOT the "flocked" velvet. In fact, Eastwood company sells a "flocking" kit....mainly for domestic car glove boxes. Yes....the "fuzzy" stuff found in glove boxes. Perhaps you could do a flocking treatment on the rubber but I suspect it wouldn't last with the entry/egress from the car. Shamile Freeze...Miami Vice !
Dear Ferraristi, Here are some photos of the OEM 512 TR ( now Testarossa ) door trim rubber pointed out by my friend Jen.....yes, she's 24 ! Yes, Yes.....I actually know her. You can see that the trim without the velvet matches nicely with the carpet bead......again pointed out by Jen. You can see the round form is correct without squishing from the closed door. Note the trim join......that was NOT easy to get perfect....but I got it ....as (again) pointed out by Jen. Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice ! You beat me to it. I was sitting here trying to think of some snide remark, but it's 44 degrees in my garage today and the heat is frying my brain.
Shamile, do you have any better photos of the shaved bits, that is the bits that do not come with the fuzz- thanks
Dear Ferraristi, ....uh oh.....I think my bad influences are rubbing off. It was kinda funny. I was explaining to Jen about the door trim issues and asked her to liven up the thread. Her response was....."you guys talk about this stuff?" I said, "don't worry, with that outfit, they'll be talking about you. ....soooo, who wants aftermarket trim now? Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
OK, I have received five samples back from the supplier. NONE has the felt backing. But, there is one sample very close to original in shape. Also, I have noticed that in the latest new catalogue the supplier sent there is a "cloth" covered seal. I think I will ask for a sample of this after christmas. Shamile, if I asked the kind lady for a flocking, or fuzzy sample, what response should I expect? Anyone interested? P
"Shamile, do you have any better photos of the shaved bits, that is the bits that do not come with the fuzz- thanks" See-now I thought Testamon was referring to Jen! Shows you what I am paying attention too!!
Good work Phil, I was looking at the DeTomaso last weekend and it has a cloth or linen covering instead of the furry stuff yet the profile looks very similar to the Testa. Would be interesting to see the sampl of the cloth one. Might be a reasonable solution for both cars.
