I was having a discussion with a fellow TR owner a while back about just how much weight could -reasonably- be removed from the Testarossa without major surgery. Here are some of the things we figured you could do:

35 lbs: Remove the cat convertors, run test pipes, and hollow out the precats.
10 lbs: Remove the Air Injection Pump and associated hardware.
10 lbs: Install any aftermarket muffler.
15 lbs: Install a light weight battery.
20 lbs: Remove the AC Compressor.
5 lbs: Remove the took kit.
10 lbs: Remove the jack kit.
35 lbs: Remove the spare tire
10 lbs: Remove the black "bumperette" from the rear bumper, fill in holes and repaint.

So far we're up to removing 150 pounds, not too bad, and you would probably feel this in how the car drives. Without trying to rival WilliamH's race car 512TR...are there any other ideas out there?

How raw do you want to go?

Remove all carpeting has got to be worth 20-25 lbs at least.

    Pass seat ?lbs

Can't think of much else. But yeah it would rival the race 512tr sorta..

Proper wheels and tires, not the bling stuff but well engineered Magnesium wheels. That has to be approaching 100#'s to change out those bricks albeit un sprung weight. The change there is quite noticeable in overall handling.

If it is being viewed as a track car my first area of focus would be on the rear deck lid. Find the lead bars hidden in that and remove them. That must have been part of a crash structure design because no body panel has a reason to be that heavy! USA bumpers are the next focus area to reduce the polar moment as well as weight. When building a race car... always start at the outer corners and work inward. Viewing everything from the Polar Moment and CG gives one the most bang for the buck when the diet starts.

I think the heavy engine lid is only on the US version. My Euro one is actually very light and has no extra supports other than for the chicken wire :D

When rebuilding the suspension over last winter I found the sprung components to be very heavy indeed. Especially the bloody wheels :( They are almost back breaking to put onto the splined shafts.

Dont recommend hollowing out the pre cats.. Just replace with test pipes.. Hollowing the cats creats turbulence and swirling inside the cat.. Nice clean test pipes are nice.. makes her run ripe..

Jeff was talking about sleeving the hollowed out Pre-cats to eliminate the swirl issue. A lot cheaper than the Hyper-Flow tubes at 1800.00 @ pair.
    It should work.

I just replaced the steel sheet metal panel that protects the fuel pumps, fuel tanks, etc.. it is approx. 5 ft. X 2 ft.......with a 4130 aluminum panel.....saved a good 10-15 lbs..

Called a Protection Plate, Ferrari part #122800
    Item #33 in drawing below.

My TR has Brembo's HRE's, Tubi and Hyper Flow precat and cat elims as well as removed spare, jack and tools. I was planning on weighing it at a friends race shop. I wonder what it'll weigh???

wiper motor and washer fluid. Wiper arms can come off and you'll be better in the wind for higher top speed. Have a thin carbon fiber engine lid made, held by pins, no hinge mechanism or shock/prop. Better, do the F50 thing and go all carbon fiber skin.

Replace all the air intake air filter housing etc with two K&N filters stuck directky into the rubber elbows to the throttle. I was amazed at how heavy the air filter assbly was.
If someone made a lightweight flywheel that would be a nice thing to change too

    Remove one fuel tank.
You would still have 12 to 15 gallons in a single tank

My race car weighs 2800 w a full cage

The body is a little heavy as some bits are fiberglass. I want to replace those w carbon bits at some point and get her down to 2700

My european testarossa version is not very heavy, really is necessary weight reductions?, only if you will use the car on track. but for track is better a 360 CS, 355 challenge or 430 scudería. Testarossa is testarossa and in my opinion not needs to change nothing. regards.
