I have a Testarossa 1984 and i did full engine checks and i replaced the timing belts . But when i get the car there is no power at all. The take off of the car is very weak and i wonder why? Any experiance with such case and what possible the causes? Thank you for your advise?
Its hard to tell from your description. It could be something to do with the work you did but I'd start by looking to see if you've lost a bank (i..e its onlyrunning on 6 cylinders). Suggest you check the ignition systems. I.
How does it sound? Can you hear it running on 12 or is there a misfire? You could have the timing out or, worse still, the cams.
Suggest doing a search for username 91tr. Steve has posted troubleshooting techniques in 100's of posts for Tr's with running problems. Like he says there a million things that need to be right with the Tr ignition/fuel system to run right and it only takes 1 thing gone wrong for a running problem.
shaikhzeep -- By your description as "1984", I'd guess that you have a TR with the F113A (K-Jet without Lambda) engine -- is this correct? The engine family number is shown on top of the engine block at cylinder #6. Please post your engine family number. Step 0 (since you've just been completely disassembled and not run correctly since then) is to make sure that the cam positions are OKish per Mark's suggestion -- there are secondary marks on the cams and the timing cover back plates that you can see on a fully assembled TR engine. You can't rely on them for high accuracy, but if significantly off I'd be worried. Step 1 is what Iain already suggested -- (with the engine running) confirm/deny if there's spark occurring on each coil wire going to the distributor cap (best done with a simple clamp on timing light). Step 2 (if you pass Step 1 -- i.e., both banks have proper ignition) is (with the engine not running) to remove the fuel pump relays R & T and touch a jumper wire as described in this thread -- you should be able to tell just by the noise if each fuel pump actually runs or not when you touch the jumper wire: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62660 see Post #6
How about something as simple as your lawn mower, how old is the gasoline and did it have this problem before? I always start at square one, mower doesn't start...does it have gas in it? Is this gas left over from last season? Did this problem begin right after refueling? The reason gas stations change their tanks is because they are known to leak, moisture can come in via those voids just as easy as gas leaking out. All I'm saying is instead of looking for the most complicated problem first, eliminate all the easy stuff like kinked fuel line, bad fuel filter, dirty injectors. Just remember the Space Shuttle burned up not because of some super complicated engine problem, but because it had a dent in the fender. I wonder how many Ferrari owners have gotten $3,000 service bills when a bottle of Dry Gas was the solution.
Steve's on the scene.... I think he just can't resist these threads shaikhzeep -- get ready to roll up your sleeves...
when the engine is running on only one bank, the untrained ear may not even notice. To quickly diagnose this... just see how hot each exhaust manifold is.... use an infra red heat gun ideally... but good old spit will tell you too. The exhaust crosses over at the tail pipes.. so LH pipes are RH bank. Kram... you cant get ign timing wrong. Maybe the leads, but not timing.
This is what products that mix water and gas will do to your fuel system. This fuel distributor was in service about 60 days when it came back under warranty. They had to clean the fuel sys from the tank on to get all the crap out make the car work. So be very careful about what you pour in the tank. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks to all of you guys. All of you right were you pointing that my car running on only one bank. Thats true. When i opened the hood and tried to check the left coil wire connetion terminal was not holding tight and was shacking and almost to fall down. I fit it back properly and used tie raps to hold both of them. And yes man when turn on the engine yes man you can hear the 12 cylinders dancing again. Thanks guys again.
