With the general testing ban what happens when a driver goes out?

Does the new drive get to log lots of hours, a few, none?

Normally you think of the driver coming in being young but if ferrari gets to have their "new" driver log a bunch of hours it seems this can only help the development of the cars no?

I think he will be allowed to drive as much as he needs but he will have to have duct tape over his mouth so he can't tell the team what to change. ;)

Just kidding, I was wondering the same thing myself. Can they put him in last years car for "re-orientation"? or is that even an option?

Sell him a car for $1, have it flown, as part of the deal, to Barcelona and rent track time for "personal" use.

why sell him a car, he received this one as a gift from Ferrari - he could find a Corse Cliente event close by and enter his own car - perfectly legit
(sorry for not so clear photo, I took it inside the Owners Hospitality at Monza and the tv was closer that I could get outside - car had red/wht/green ribbon)

That would be perfectly legal but remember we are running under new rules with Snowplows for wings, slicks and KERS so if MS showed up at a Cliente event in a F60 the rest of the grid would scream foul and get all butt hurt.

There must be something in the rules....it would not be safe to send a driver out with zero seat time.

    A very interesting topic.

I would think the rules would be written such that no driver who is on the payroll of the team, and no car that has components currently being used in racing can be driven for testing.

The Corsa Clienti thing is very interesting, I wonder what old cars have in common with new cars? I'm sure some parts (a few at least) are probably direct drop-in, certainly harnesses, wheels (maybe?) brake rotors/pads, etc. So the rules are either written in a very lengthy manner with numerous exceptions, or they are very flexible. I'm hoping the latter... and I am sure Ferrari will have a pow-wow with the FIA and get some sort of exemption. They better get it in writing, though, based on their recent relationship status with Max and the FIA.

But not hours on the track in an F60, unless he does them all in a straight line!

    [...]

    f) be judged by the FIA to have consistently demonstrated
outstanding ability in single-seater formula cars, but with no

Exactly; I will be the first to admit I was pretty impressed with his performance. Of course, it will be interesting to see if/how much he develops.

Precisely right. This is the best thing that could have happened to F1 at this point in it's future. Now, if we could just get more coverage in the states, I will be happy :)

But they could rebuild his own F1 ( or a 2008 car) as close as possible to the F60 (slicks, no TC, aero). KERS shouldn't be a problem. I think he can handle the extra BHP :)

Loophole for the testing ban? "Dear Max, we know you'd give Schumacher the license anyway, but we thought it inevitable to show that he really qualifies for it and let im drive not 300 but 3000km in the car to prove his skill!"

    Quote from Schumachers website:

"Of course I was also taking the opportunity to again discuss with the engineers how to proceed further. There is this test ban in Formula 1, therefore I contacted some of the guys from F1 Clienti if they could give me a car. Although those cars are not current or last year's ones, I simply like to drive as much as possible, so this is a good option. The next weeks will be totally on preparation then."

Funny how these things are worded!

As if HE has to pick up the phone and do some wrangling/negotiating to get a Clienti F1 car. Hah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
