Well, here we are in Indy again. Like last year, my traveling companions are Jimmy and Jayson. Unlike last year, we got smart and decided to fly rather than drive 13 hours non-stop for the run. That means we'll miss the Kum and Go in Missouri, but I'll take 2ish hours in a plane anyday.

Heavy weather in Chicago delayed our landing a bit, and as we literally power-dove through the lightening storm Jayson remarks "this isn't normal..."

REALLY? I thought dropping like a SB2C Helldiver and then flying 200 feet above the houses was a normal entry into Chicago Midway for AA. I guess not.

Anyway, on to rental car->long drive->3 AM hotel room registration->couple of hours sleep. J&J decide they need a collection of illegible scribbles, so they're off at oh-God-30 AM to get wristbands for the afternoon autograph sessions. Since I have nieces and nephews that can generate illegible scribbles, I decide to sleep in until the luxurious 7 AM.

Off to the track for the track tour, buying stuff, and checking out the scenery. Not much in the way of exotics, but I did manage to get a shot or two.

Michelin is really trying to buy their way back into the hearts of race fans. Lot of freebie flags and hats and such. I did notice that all the autograph session drivers were Bridgestone guys.

    That's it for now

We're back for Friday practice and another swing at the junk haulers. Yesterday the ladies at the museum suggested we go look at the mosiac in the pool at the Turn 2 Motel. That's the one just outside the track, and after a long run it's scheduled for demolition/replacement. So, for the record, here's a shot of the mosaic :)

Couple of more exotics around today, but overall a lot lighter than last year. I've attached a couple of shots of a 348 -- never seen those wheels before

Not a whole lot of drama today. Schumi misunderstood what "take it for a spin" meant and left the car stranded in the kitty litter. No crashes or strange tire problems, thank goodness.

Between practices we made another pass through the junk haulers and ran into Ron, Greg, John and Rob. Somehow we always manage to bump into that group whenever we're at a race.

Also met Bert Levy, author of "The Last Open Road" and more. I got him to sign a set of books for me, I'm pretty happy with that.

"Gran Prix" is now available on DVD from multiple vendors, a little early ;)

Supposed to hook up with the Will/Robert/Nicola/Dave group sometime this evening, maybe at the fchat gathering in a few hours

We just got here! We had a little confusion back at home that made us get a VERY late start. I'll be there at the meet tonight, though. I hope to see everyone there!

Robert C, FarmerDave, & myself got into town last night about 7:30pm. We took care of the hotel then ran to the Fchat party downtown, I'm still recovering...so far I've met some vary interesting folks but I'll post about that later.

For a moment I thought you were talking about the BMW F-1 car on the billboard there. It took me a moment...but I'm up to speed now. :)
