so i want to go to a driving school/race school, pretty much anything to get some track time and learn more about car handling and what not.

i know theres kinda a big diff between a race school and driving school but either way i want to go to one...

my budget is about $1000-1500 and i was looking to do that audi 2 day teen thing they used to have in dallas? i think, but its no longer there...

so what are my options? im also looking at the 2 day BMW/AUDI teen things in SC and atlanta... but they are right around the limit of my budget right now... so im probably going to have to stay in state for now...

also i know its not much of a good idea but what about going to an track day somewhere...(kinda limited in texas to?? 2-3 tracks?) but i'd rather not with my car having never been on a track b4... but the track by college station has miatas? for rent on track days...

    what should i do?

    Hey Seth,

Here is the link to the different types of schools we offer at the Texas Driving Experience:

    http://www.texasdrivingexperience.com/sub.aspx?p=DrivingPrograms&s=OTYC

I haven't instructed yet at the Apex driving academy to offer any insight there, but I do know they have a few good instructors there, check for Andre Vandenberg.

Drop me a line if you need anything or have any questions.

    Best Regards

I can highly recommend Apex Driving Academy, as I know both the owners, and they are upstanding guys (and great drivers themselves):

Another vote for Apex. Stay at www.BigBendVilla.com when you are in town and we can put together a package that includes the lodging, track time, instruction, etc. Even a car if you need it.

(That concludes this commercial interruption. We now return you to your regulary scheduled thread .....)

Before you pick a program, decide what it is you want to get out of it. Each is a little different and has a different mix between classroom and track time, lead and follow vs. in-car instruction, car control skills vs. learning a racing line, etc.

If you want some track time with excellent instruction, Maverick region (Porsche club of America DFW region) has some of the best instructors in the area, and all you have to pay is the DE entry fee; usually around $225 for a weekend.

PM me if you have specific questions.

I was a corner worker at one of these events. Seems like a great group of people, lots of track time and a good way to get your car on the track.

The Drivers Edge worked well for me. They do events in Dallas, Houston and College Station.

BIAS ALERT; I co-own Apex Driving Academy. Our school is designed for the novice, although we do have programs for grads. We therefore have some fundamental car control drills before jumping out on the open track. Our school is also one day and gives you 4 sessions in the afternoon, at least 7 sessions if you are a grad. That way you can devote one day of the weekend and have the rest of the weekend available. More stuff coming from Apex soon, we hope.

So you may want to do our school and track days later on.
