Hi Guys, Texas Gulf coast. Good, bad and the ugly. Best true beach town that is not all condos and fishing boats... Is there any place on the Gulf Coast that has that old true beach town feel? Tim
Well, you'll have to try them all!! Sea Rim/ Sabine Pass certainly has no condos.. Bolivar is pretty much a blank slate since Ike, but building fast, as is East Bay and Smith Point. Skip Galveston, I like Port O'Conner, Rockport, then on down to Port Aransas.. But, pretty much all of these small burgs are "drinking towns, with a real fishing problem"..
Maybe Surfside??? Quintana Beach.....the towers you will see are actually Dow Freeport!! Look at Oak Island....then, go eat at the Pine Tree Lodge......
I personally don't think that Texas has a good beach but I'll admit that I haven't seen them all. My $.02. I went to Florida for my beach fix. Mississippi/Alabama also have some beautiful beaches and are closer.
Port Aransas. We have a house in Rockport (just north of Port A), but there's not much of a beach there. Otherwise it's lovely. If you really want to drive, then go down to South Padre. When it's not spring break, or the middle of the summer, it definitely has a beach town feel without the crowds.
Mustang Island State Park is a great get away if you want miles of beach front with no condo's in sight. It is located about 10-15 minutes south of Aransas Pass. Also, you have to take a short ferry ride over the pass to reach the island. If you want to go really far south, then Padre Island national park is a good bet for seclusion. Jeff
I agree. Setup a nice campsite on the white sand over looking the blue waters and fish to your hearts content then fry up your catch, I miss South Padre.
Um, he said "No Condos"??? I notice a Marina in Indianola on the market, it didn't work so well, for the original settlement, but maybe now???
