I was wondering was where is a good place to live in Texas? A place where a Ferrari can be enjoyed (nice roads), has good meets, easy access to a dealer, etc. Thanks in advance.

    Easily Austin.

Up north though, Plano works out really well. Lots of dealerships on 1 road for your other vehicles, nice roads, homes, and easy access to the highway.

Of course, home prices and taxes are becoming a pain in the rear.

Well of course Austin is the best place to live in Texas but we don't have our Ferrari dealership. There is a Ferrari dealership in San Antonio, just about an hour and a half away. We do have our own independent Ferrari mechanic and another very competent shop that works on exotics. Our independent mechanic David Moore can do anything the dealer can, plus some more.
If your car is under warranty the San Antonio dealer will come pick it up and drop it back off when done if you don't want to drive it. The Houston dealership is just 3 hours away. They have a very good body shop!

Austin sits right on the border of the Texas Hill Country. Just drive 5-10 minutes into west Austin and you'll find plenty of excellent roads to have fun on. Drive 15-20 minutes out towards the lake and you'll find big open roads where you can really open her up.

We (Austin FCA members) meet up at least once every month and sometimes twice. Our chapter includes all of the Hill Country and down to the coast. The Austin and San Antonio members are the most active out of the group. I'm the photographer so I attend all the events in Austin and San Antonio. The San Antonio group meets on the first Saturday of every month. We have about 100 Ferraris in Austin and probably the same amount in San Antonio.

Austin is a great place for lots of reasons. We have lots of greenbelt areas that are full of hiking/biking trails, climbing walls, swimming holes and hot chicks!
Lake Travis is a pretty large lake just outside of Austin. It's great for any water activity you could think of. We also have tons of City, County, and State parks in and around Austin. If you like clubs and bars, we have tons of those also.

This is what I know that we have in Austin for sure. There are lots of guys that aren't in the club and I don't know about all their cars. I'm sure there are a bunch of Ferraris in Austin that I haven't found out about yet.

But since you didn't mention whether or not you were looking for a metro residence or not you could consider New Braunsfels or Marble Falls. Each being about 45 minutes or less to their respective larger cities (San Antonio and Austin respectively).

How about The Woodlands, a suburb north of Houston?

It's pretty green and nice here. There are wonderful roads very close by. Houston has an official Ferrari dealer and probably 2 good independents. Good restaurants, airport with connections virtually anywhere (important if you travel a lot for work - Austin and San Antonio will make you fly to Houston or some other metro to take a connecting flight). Good theatre action and shopping for your better half. Not to mention low real estate prices - lower than DFW, San Antonio and Austin.

The principal negative is that Houston is a boring city with hardly anywhere interesting to take guests. :(

I lived in Houston for 18 years in the NW Champions area. The Woodlands is very nice, when I left in 2003 it was well on it's way to becoming it's own mini city with several high buildings going up. However, I have heard from many old friends that much of the rest of Houston isn't the same since all the Katrina people from New Orleans moved to town and that crime and shady people are at an all time high. I loved my time in Houston, but I would NEVER move back.

He hasn't come out to any of the events yet. Several good friends of mine have seen it around Westlake and one of the Porsche guys knows him. He also has a Carrera GT.

Texans are very nice people! Thanks for all of your inputs, much appreciated. I'm in So Cal now, but there's just no "open roads" to enjoy the car not to mention the cost of living and lack of space.

So far it sounds like Austin, Plano, and San Antonio areas are good places to be. Any particular zip codes that I should zoom in on? Lastly, is there any nice track near by?

    Thanks again.

Plano? It's nice enough, but I wouldn't encourage someone to live there. And I live right next door.

For the Dallas area I'd suggest Southlake to someone coming from out of state. If I were moving here, that's where I'd go.

What type of residence would you be looking for? Suburban, urban, small town with access to a big city?

True, but it's where I've grown up a lot, so I'm kind of used to it being pretty nice compared to some of the other counties. However, I would like to live in one of those gigantic homes outside Dallas with large acres of land. :)

That's not the guy... the only Ferrari he has is a 360. And he did come out to one of our events.

The guy I'm talking about just recently moved here from California. I don't think he's famous or anything.

How is the new addition? Am I going to get to see her this weekend?

nice gated (if available) community with easy access to big city and nice roads. not sure if there's contemporary/urban style houses, but if there is, that would be my preference.

    thx.

Currently in Provence enjoying some food and wine and pretty hot weather.. Also planning to catch the Monaco Grand Prix in person this weekend so I won't make the breakfast. Hopefully the new addition is in transit from Ca. Horseless Carriage is taking forever to do the pick up so I hope that I will have a nice surprise when I get home (never seen it in person!) - You guys have fun!
