Okay you guys, this is the season final for the DFW Outlaws at Texas Raceway in Kennedale this Friday night. They are going to pay the top 16 places. The ad says, "run what ya brung and hope you brung enough". This is headsup racing and loads of fun. Track usually opens about 5pm, time trials begin about 6:30 or 7:00 and eliminations about 8:30 to 9:00. Just bring earplugs. If you want to park on the spectator side if you get there early enough you can park near the fence that runs along beside the track so you can view from your car. I love to go to the pits and hobnob with the teams but that is my thing.

Come on out and have some fun.......

Hey, it was fun the time you came out and took the photos that I posted in another thread. I remember your remark about earplugs when you were standing beside the "67 Vette Pro Mod of Gene Hector. And the look on the guys face who was standing directly behind the headers about 4 feet away when they fired up the engine and the exhaust blew his cap off.

Somehow I lost the photos you sent me. Can you post or resend them please..........Have fun this weekend...

    1. Gene Hector....best of 3.97 supercharged on racing gas.
    2. Wes Johnson...best of 4.107 fuel injected on nitrous

Aren't those Pro Mods amazing? Lots of fun to watch and you can certainly "feel" them when they launch. No, not as powerful , quick or fast as the fuel funny cars or top fuel cars but they are door slammers. And they seem to handle like my old altereds did........quirky and basically unpredictable.

3.799 is absolutely amazing. That equates to just barely over 5 seconds in the quarter if the acceleration numbers hold constant..........On racing gasoline...not nitro...

Okay, I have my kitchen pass in hand and am heading out the door heading to Kennedale. My wife is in Big Spring to bring her mother back here for Thanksgiving and my son is in Indianapolis at the RCA Dome competing in the Bands of America Grand National Marching Championships.

So, I get to have a guys night out. Mingle with the cars and drivers and smell the tire smoke and feel my body shake from the vibrations created by the cars lauching full throttle. This is gonna be cool. The temp is supposed to be in the upper 50's and humidity at a good level. These cars should really be able to haul it tonight. Get the track temp up a bit and put that cool air into the engines and look out..............

    Report from the track.

Track was slick due to temp. Engines were producing more hp due to air temp. Slick track plus cool temp/higher hp = wheelspin.

Lots of low 5 second runs in qualifying and in the first round of eliminations until a '68 Camaro Outlaw lost it on the top end, hit both guardrails on both sides of the track, got airborne and took out the timing lights at the finish. Driver was okay but car was totally demolished. I left the track at 10:30 after waiting an hour for them to repair the lights. They were still working on them when I left. The curfew calls for closing the track at midnight so it looks like they will not finish the finals tonight.

The camaro got to the starting line and I noticed that one of the rear slicks was totally inflated to what appeared to be about 50 lbs of air and the other about 15 lbs. They were wrinklewall slicks so you could really see the difference. This is really a dumb thing to do. These cars are really quick and build speed very fast so the handling is really affected by tire pressure. I have no idea if they forgot to check his tire pressure before bringing him to the line or the driver may have thought that he could load the chasis for more traction on one of the slicks by changing the tire pressure. You load the chasis with suspension adjustments, not having different air pressures in the tires.....dumb, dumb, dumb. Can you imagine driving a car in excess of 120 mph and having your rear tires at extremely different air pressures? The car started pulling hard to the left about 2/3 track and shortly before the finish line it hit the guardrail, bounced directly across the track on its two left tires with the right side up in the air, hit the right side guardrail and flipped through the lights, taking them out. Bad wreck. I am glad the driver was able to walk away.

It ended up not being a good night to go out there because of the wreck and the repairs that had to be made........Maybe next time.....

Which photos are you referring to? Track shots or the personal ones of you & your drag racing cohorts in the pit area? BTW, thanks for the track report.

Couldn't make it had to do a lighting presentation. But thought about it the whole time there . Got the job but would have been disappointed if it hadn't worked out.

Sounds like it was a fun night...other than the Camaro crashing...thanks goodness the driver was alright

Too bad about the track delay...I hate it when you are pumped for a night of racing and someone spills fluids...or a crash

I'm having withdrawals from the race scene already and it is only November !!

Until next season I guess :)

Thanks for the pictures everyone !!
