Just wanted to remind everyone to make sure they sign up for our upcoming event at MSR on October 30th. We are inviting all sports club to attend and encourage everyone to sign up early for both the concorso show and instructed track time. Instructed track time has limited spots so don't wait; visit www.TEXASCONCORSO.com and print off the registration form. If you have any questions please feel free to call us at: Lamborghini Dallas 972-241-0808 or Texas Driver Magazine 972-731-4390
I register at the website using the online registration forms for the open track time, technical clinics, and vip passes a couple of weeks ago. Should I have receive a reply by e-mail yet? Or not? Thanks.
I send in a check & application, but haven't heard anything either. Maybe they will contact us next week. I don't know what to bring yet. Is there anyone going to the track on this day?
From what I understand, it's not really a track day. Entrants will get two 15 minute lead and follow sessions in the afternoon. MSR will still be having a members day, so you'll see some cool motorcycles and cars in action at speed.
Hey guys, just got off the phone with Tim Miller at Texas Driver to confirm the track time confusion. The $195.00 entry fee will get you a VIP lunch, classroom instruction, (2) lead and follow sessions with the option of a ride along instructor, and then (2) open track sessions in the afternoon. The track event with Texas Driver will be mixed in with the open member day at MSR. All in all, you should get between 1-2 hours of total for the event. If you have any questions regarding your slot or the event, please call the staff at Texas Driver Magazine. See you guys there!
Oops, just repeating what Jack Farr said to the MSR members, he only mentioned the two lead and follow sessions and not the two full track sessions. That makes it sound much better, although I will still be out there kicking Keiths butt at TMS, even though he's in another class and race group. Oh well, what's the handicap girlie car racer? Give me 2 seconds?
I have registered but only for the members open track sessions. Now dare I bring a non-Eytie car? Probably not. Rob, I will have the A4 here in Nov and will see if NASA will let me run in your event class next year.
I was out there on the last member's day when they had this event. At 5pm when the member's day was over, Jack opened the track up for the event participants to have their run sessions.
Question for you experienced racers. What cold pressure should I put in the tires before driving to MSR? Is there air down there? Will I want more like 40 lbs for the track vs the 30-32 normal pressure? I'm an old drag racer where we jacked up the front pressures and let the air out of the backs, so give me some help please.
It's hard to predict what is best cold. IMHO you need to take a gauge with you and after a session see where the pressures are hot. I target all four corners equal and at 34 to 36 pounds hot with street tires. The lower HP cars will have the front tires heat up more with the braking, while the Ferraris should have the rears heat up a little more because of acceleration. So I would start cold 32 in front and 30 in back, then after your first session take the pressures and adjust. At MSR I even put a half pound less in the rights as that side will heat up more. I think it's also good to put a line of shoe polish from the tread to your wheel so you can make sure you're not rolling over on your sidewall too much. If the polish is rubbing off way down the sidewall, then I would add a little more pressure.
I would concur with Rob here. For a 355, your rear tires will heat up faster, esp. at MSR, which has some tight turns that you need strong exits out of. Try to keep your hot pressures no higher than 38 rear and 40 front, IMO. Any more than that in the rear, and you'll get a greasy feeling that will translate into lack of traction (and once a mid engine car begins to spin, it is usually all over for all but the most experienced drivers). More than that in the front, and they will begin to skate, which will translate into an inability to get cornering grip.
Thanks for the sage advise. Can't wait for my first tracking day since a formula vee at Green Valley in 1981.
FV is still one of the more popular classes. I've about killed a few FV drivers when they combined into our class, not a good mix. I'm jealous, all the great tracks of the past and I never got to run them. Somewhere way down on my list of "to do's" was being a road track historian. I actually started www.roadtracks.com about 4 years ago, but FC has taken all my time. Here's a satellite photo on Green Valley a few years ago... http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.aspx?t=1&s=11&x=1668&y=9102&z=14&w=2
Still haven't received or heard anything from Texas Driver about the event Saturday. Left a voice mail yesterday. I know it's 10-6, but I would like a schedule for the day if possible.
Too bad I'll miss this event! I wanted to see the M roadster and the Noble, but racign beckons. I'll be in Formula Mazda (yellow/black) 79 and Spec Miata (blue/white) 79, run groups 5 & 4 (that is going to be tough!).

Got word back from Texas Driver that lunch is at 12:00 and Classroom driving instruction at 1:30. Yoshi and I are caravaning from LBJ and McArthur in the 10:15 range for anyone interested. Should have my neighbors' black Diablo in the group too. Weather sounds pretty good right now for a great day at the track.
