Guys I am doing some research. What do you think about texting? What's the first thing you think of when you hear it?

    Discuss!

+1 for the vid. I don't get it why people text, it seems rather counterproductive to me.

Still doesn't make sense, all you'll get out of texting is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. If you don't want to talk, you don't have anything important to say, so why bother typing it?

I hate talking on the phone. I was thrilled when texting was invented.

Texting allows me to address the subject when I have the moment as opposed to phone calls where I have to pause whatever I am doing to talk. I hate that.

I also hate chit chatting and get annoyed when people cant get to their point and hang up. Most conversations should last less than a minute and texting allows me to cut through the chit chat and just address the main point of the conversation.

Well texting can be very handy in situations where it's not convenient to talk. (Loud party, class, etc.) And also, some things are just so small that they don't really warrant a phone call. Like a friend will text me and say "what time you work today?" and I'll write back "10-7". And that's it. He was just curious when I worked, no need to physically call someone up for something as simple as that.

Yeah, sorta. Calling someone takes less time though :) I think it's just a trend and keeps people busy with their hands. I hate it myself, but my wife is a textaholic. She loves it, and that's cool with me. When I hear of texting I usually think of high school girls chatting about boys with their friends. It ranks right up there with being cool because you know acronyms IMO :) (see the irony in that statement?) Whatever anyone thinks about it, it sure is a huge "fad" that I don't think is going to go away anytime soon.

I hate it! Its all everyone does now. Whats the purpose of having a phone? I guess its ok, every once in a while, but people just do that instead of talk. And it gets annoying.

there are situations where you just cant talk on the phone and its so much less intrusive.

Text alerts like F1 results are cool!

Yes girls text a lot so naturally the guys do follow ;)
Texting is growing at a far more rapid rate that expected and its becoming a multi billion dollar industry.

Also when at school or in the movies where you cant talk you can just text away. school texting is growing, its growing so much schools in Miami and my school hate cell phones in class and teachers now take them away and make the parents pick it up from the principle. Teachers have competitions to see who can collect the most cellphones in one month..... I have'nt gotten caught yet. :)

When I was in HS, if anyone had a pager (yes pager) or cellphone, you would get suspended for three days. Times are changing....

No, you stupid little ****, you can't text away at the movies. It's rude and intrusive and inconsiderate to text at the movies. It's not your low, hushed voice talking on the phone that pisses other people off. It's the light coming from your phone's screen. And when you are texting, the light is there. So knock it off, because when people like me see people like you, we reach over, grab your phone, stomp on it twice, then hand it back to you.

And, instead of texting in class, how about paying attention? You know, so you learn something and don't remain a jackass your whole life?

I love texting. It makes communication between many people in a short amount of time
    very easy.

The first thing I think about when I hear the word texting is...girls :)

Everyone thinks of girls when they hear texting, thats crazy cause so do I.

What would you like to get as alerts for texting? Something you wouldn't mind getting delivered to your phone on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

I dont mind texting for short messages but isnt it annoying when someone wants to start a 'text conversation' sometimes and you really cant be bothered? Its also handy to get a message to someone when you are unable to pick up the phone, for example if you are in a presentation and want to tell someone you will call them when you are free.

We also use them a lot at work to get messages out to the staff...
