The most common complaint is that the TFT system starts to blink then fail. Mine displays a different issue.

Turning the key to the start position the display is complete and fully lit. Once the engine is running the screen goes dark but brightens the longer the car is running. The time it takes to revert to fully lit is very dependent on the ambient temperature. After 15 minutes in warm weather the screen if fully lit. In winter, I moved it to have Michelins installed to replace the dreaded Pirellis. It was 15° and the display only started to come to life after driving to the mechanic, being in a heated garage for the time it was being worked on and then only at the end of the return trip. I also noted that the clock was losing time. The battery is less than three years old and charging seems not to be an issue.

Are these the early signs of needing the services of Franchorchamps of America, Inc. or is there a supply issue separate from the screen circuitry?

I will defer to those with more knowledge than I have but I would say yes. Then again, that repair isn't too expensive compared to others.

My 2010 612 has a similar left-side TFT malfunction. On a cold morning, the TFT screen is too dark to read, though I can see that it is getting signal. After the car warms up, 10 or 15 minutes, the TFT screen is fully bright. It recovers slowly, not all of a sudden, so I presume that the problem is in the screen chemistry rather than some sort of electrical problem.

I had my 612 outside for 2 nights at -8 degC while on a trip to the mountains. Both days she started right up but the LCD as very dim for 10-15 minutes as described above. It is definitely related to the "Liquid" of the LCD. The LCD behaves normally above 0 degC in my 612.

I've also seen the cold weather thing. No big deal.

Agreed. The other thing is that I’m sure mine self dims. So if I start the car in the garage with the lights on, it thinks it’s dark outside. As soon as i drive out into the light, the screen is hard to see. It take a while for the light sensor to catch up and increase the maximum brightness.
