mods, please move is this is not correct forum, but posting here because this is the forum where I asked all the questions when I was considering buying a 360.

I want to thank the many of you for giving me solid advice, being very open with your opinions, etc in regards to me exploring the idea of buying a 360.

In the end , I actually chose to buy a Cayman S. Huh? That may sound weird, but getting input from many of you, it became clear that maybe I wasn't the right guy for a Ferrari, or not in the right place in my life or maybe its just not a car that fits me... I didn't get the rah rah "yes buy a ferrari, its the best , everything else sucks" rhetoric from you guys, instead, many of you gave sound advice that maybe there would other cars that would better fit me, I might enjoy more or would be more appropriate, I got ideas, suggestions... you guys helped me consider ALL options.

ANd I appreciate that... and after a lot of consideration, came to realize it was true.

I think at this point in my life, for me, a Porsche made more sense... and after driving every model, I chose the Cayman S simply because I liked it the best and the engine is in the correct location. I don't think an engine belongs in the rear of a car.

Yeah, pretty big swing to go from considering a 360 to a Cayman, I know... but its about getting the RIGHT car for me... not the best car, or fastest car, or coolest car... but just the RIGHT car

And as crazy as it sounds, you F-chatters helped me see that (I think because many of you have various sports cars and so can offer good opinions).... I might add, you guys were way more helpful than the Rennlist guys who pretty much think if its not a Porsche, then it sucks.. and I don't get that type of vibe from most of you.

Anyway, I rambled on too long already, just wanted to say thanks to you all for having a great forum and being helpful.

bottom line is whatever you drive, have fun with it. I have to say, most Porsche guys are very helpful, and although they are proud of their make, I don't find them over the top/ down on other makes in most cases. I have driven another make at Porsche Club events here in the upper midwest and they showed no disrespect at all. Not to say you didn't get these vibes from some on Rennlist, but I'm guessing it's just a few apples. Anyway, have fun with the cayman.

Its hard to step up to reality sometimes, even harder to publish that decision on a public forum, my hats off to you!

The Cayman is no wimp, should make for an excellent track car as well!!! Post some pics!

Congrats and enjoy!! Don't worry there will be time grasshopper!!!!!

Great choice! I'm thinking of picking one up to use as a daily driver. Can you let us know your impressions of your car and whether it is suitable as a daily driver. BTW, did you really mean that you don't think an engine belongs in the front of a car. I believe you got the Cayman because the engine is in the rear. Congrats on your car.

IMO engine belongs in front or middle... I don't understand why Porsche continues to use the rear engine design in 911 cars.

impressions: well won't bore you with anything lengthy, but its obviously not the fastest car, but is very nimble and tossable (relative to the 997 models which felt heavy and large to me)nice driving position, good visibility, ... cabin is typical cold german style, no passion in it like an italian car. The amount of grip suprised me.

I guess the main reason I chose it was that it feels a little raw (compared to 911, maybe not compared to F-cars), feels like a real sports car, not a luxury GT disguising itself as a sports car like the 911. Hope that makes sense. the 997 models just felt lifeless to me.. they did nothing to excite me. The Cayman just felt like it wanted to be driven....

Daily driver: definitely. The hatchback and front truck are small areas but very convenient, but the car is very comfortable and easy to drive. The 19 wheels make the ride a little harsh for some people so you might want 18" or get PASM so you can in normal mode, the ride is a bit softer.

Remember I am comparing to 997 models and my own cars recently owned (Evo 8, Mini cooper S,) and M3 and M coupe I test drove. How you guys would compare it to an F-car is probably very different (slow, cold and soul-less, boring?). But to me, it would make a fun daily driver if you just needed a fun toy to zip around.

I had owned different Ferraris. The latest one was a F430 6Spd. My Porsche Boxster S is still in the garage. Though in days, my next Ferrari will arrive, I believe the Boxster will stay and for a long time to come.
