    Dear Members of FerrariChat,

My family and I would like to thank all of you in FerrariChat for your kind words of condolence and heartfelt sympathies expressed in the sudden passing of our beloved husband and father, “Coach I.”

He loved to converse on FerrariChat. He would come home each night after work and check responses to his posts. On the Friday night before he died, he came to the bedroom and told me that he had just met a new enthusiast that lives near Boston. He was so thrilled to have someone new to share one of his passions--Ferrari. He said he had received a very nice letter from him, as well.

The next morning, he left the house in a great mood and drove his 512bbi black Boxer to the golf course to enjoy meeting his friends and playing his usual Saturday golf round. He never returned home. I recently read one of his posts to the question, “what would you do if you only had 36 hours to live?” He said something to the affect that he would probably have IV’s in his arms, tubes everywhere and would be so sick the only thing he wished for would be to have family nearby. Luckily, his last 36 hours found him pursuing his passions for business, family, wine, food, golf, friendship, and yes–driving one of his Ferraris.

Whenever he had a sticky mechanical problem, he would log on to FerrariChat and persevere until the problem was solved. It was a great way for him to talk about everything Ferrari and even enjoy some heated political discussions.

We both had so much fun in the past few years meeting and getting to know other Ferrari enthusiasts. We have made some very, very good riends. The gatherings, comradery, and friendships formed were a great source of pleasure for him after he retired from soccer coaching at Clemson University in 1994.

“Coach I” loved people and he would be so happy to know that so many of you cared to take time to write. While it was difficult for my family and I to read all the posts in those early hours after his death, I asked a Ferrari friend of ours from Columbia to print them out for me, which he did, presenting them to me in a bound notebook.

Your thoughtful expressions of sympathy are a great comfort to our family in this sad time of loss.

    Sincerely,

    Julie Ibrahim
    “Mrs. Coach I.”

Mrs. Ibrahim, we're all better off for having known Coach I, and the world was a better place with him in it. Let us not mourn his passing, rather rejoice in his legacy, and the passion he instilled that will live on forever.

I never met Coach I, but I always enjoyed reading about the gatherings you have hosted. Sharing the fun is one of the best aspects of the Ferrari scene. It is clear that he was a very generous enthusiast.
