My very short term love affair with my TR is over, and it is being replaced today by a new Lotus Elise, a totally different approach to driving more reminiscent of my sport motorcycle days.

I always wanted to own a TR, and now I have, but for a non mechanically inclined owner, between the major engine out, and my latest problems with an ignition coil, second cat ECU failure, my concerns over gas in the oil, and the fact that in 5 months I've dumped $10,000 into maintenance and repairs, with the feeling of "what's next?" it lost the feeling of "fun" for me.

As everyone warned, buying a TR and owning a TR are different issues, and you have to have the right mental set for both. An 18 year old car is an 18 year old car, even if it is a beautiful 12 cylinder Ferrari!!

The Lotus isn't a long term ownership type of car, so I'm guessing that in less than a year, I'll have Brian Crall find me a modern 8 cylinder in good shape, and hope for better luck on maintenance and repairs. Higher buy-in, less running costs, more worry free fun, I hope.

This is a fun group, and since I'm subscribed anyway, I'll probably continue to follow all of the threads, just not from an owner's perspective.

As the motorcycling community says "keep the rubber side down" !
