I recently found this site and started reading alot of threads and posting a few myself. I origionally came to the site thinking that I was going to make a 99 or 00 360 my first Ferrari. For those that replied to my previous posts you probably remember that Im 30 years old and was about to jump head first into a $80k plus car. Alot of advice was given to me at that point and most of it was that I would be biting off more than I could chew. Ive done alot of research and alot of thinking and Ive come to the conclusion that you guys are right, It would be stupid in my situation to purchase that type of car. Ive decided to look for a 308 or 328 that I can pickup for $25k-$35k. I want so much to be a part of Ferrari ownership, and be able to meet new people and go to events with other Ferrari owners. I feel that this is a much better way to go. I still have to do more research on these cars and find out more about the services involved and what model is best for me, and even what the differences are in the 2 models. However, I would like to say Thank You to all of you. If not for everyones input, I could have gotten myself in serious financial trouble. This site is so great and all of you are very helpfull.

P.S. I cant wait to join the club and meet some of you in person.

Just remember... you don't have to own a car to be in the club.

    Good luck with your search.

Just an FYI, IMO the higher end of your price range may get you an average 308, but may only get you a poor 328 (if that).

Small world - I have family in Aurora, OH. You might want to post in your region to find out where the 'way east of Cleveland' owners get their Ferraris serviced. The good news is the 308/328 were the last relatively simple (e.g., no microprocessors/engine computers) Ferraris, so much of what needs to be done is basic stuff like hoses, belts, gaskets and replacing aging fuel injection bits.

Echoing what Simon says, I think I'd allow $40K for a good, driver 308, and $55K for a good, driver 328 in red or black (odd colors being less). Lots of info in the 308/328 section here. Broadly speaking, I think the 328 is a better car, but still I'd take a very well-sorted late 308 (84-85) over a mediocre 328.

Also, having grown up east of Cleveland, I'd say you might want to expand your search beyond the only local place (Marshall Goldman, though they seem to find good cars) and consider places like Motorcars Int'l in Missouri and even guys like Jim Lyons (The Sports Car Company) in San Diego, who work nationwide to find cars.

    Wise choice and good luck.

I agree with the price info. I've been looking for a good 328 for a solid two months (which some say is not enough time) and there is very little out there under $50K that is not either higher mileage or lacking in maintenance, or often times BOTH. Or a weird color like that banana/chocolate one at Motorcar in Florida.

There is no such thing as a cheap Ferrari. 50K-60K for a 328 is reasonable. Plus, there is sales tax ($4600 on a $50K car where I live), insurance ($500-$1000/year), shipping ($800-$2000+) if the car is not local... and that little item "maintenance"...

Actually I just signed a purchase agreement for a black/tan with 22K miles!

What's a good price for the black/tan with 14K miles?

    No prob man

We are all happy to help. 308/328 are wonderful cars with great heritage. There are many great examples to be had. If money was no object I would have a 599 but for me, sadly, it is. It is all about making choices that make sense FOR YOU!

GL with your search and keep us posted.

Good to have another Clevelander on here!

I have a good 308 GTSi driver. You're welcome to come see/test drive it.

For local mechanics, you MUST use North Coast Exotics on 68th in Cleveland. He is THE best.
