Some of you know I did a really dumb thing with my cell phone last night while getting ready for Jihae's recital. I figured the phone was a writeoff and I was all ready to buy a new one this morn.

Well Gene suggested I chill for 24hrs... I stuck it on my baseboard heater before bed last night, and sure enough it powered up today. After lots of disinfecting wipes, shes good as new so far.

    Props Gene!

While I can only speculate on what excatly happened, I can assume it involved the phone getting wet. While it may work fine now, in time some of the components inside may begin to corrode and the phone could just die on you. It could happen in a few days or in a year. Or never. Back up any information stored on the phone a.s.a.p.

In the future, after you pull the phone out of the toilet ( I'm guessing), hose it with isopropyl alcohol. It will displace the water and then evaporate cleanly. And kill any bacteria to boot!

    Now go wash your hands.

    Swimming pool, not pottty.
    21" monitor, not cell phone.
14 bottles of alcohol. I'm looking at it right now. 2 years later.

But your phone... in the toilet....ewww...

I've received conflicting reports from the persons responsible for moving said monitor into my new house as to how exactly it happened. The long and the short of it is "Why was it placed on top of a stack of boxes, 2 feet from the pool?"

I stepped out of my house onto the patio just in time to see my friend fully dressed, charging up the stairs in the shallow end, carrying the monitor with water pouring out the sides and an "Oh, sh*t" look on his face. Ah, what lovely sight.

    Then the screaming started..

    no problem glad it worked.

here's another tip from the geeksquad (until the 14th)

if you spill something in your keyboard, as we all have, it's not a loss. Put it in the dishwasher upside down. When complete take it out and shake it all around to get any excess water out of it. Hose it with isopropyl alcohol if you would like. Let it dry on something warm for 24 hours or so and you're set. No more sticky keys.

or just buy a new $12 keyboard.

What if I just did it to my laptop's keyboard? Should I put the laptop open or closed in the dishwasher?

if you're serious. you can easily remove the keyboard from the laptop itself.

    if you're joking...POST WHORE :D

One time I was using my laptop at a friends house. His door opened and his puppy came running over, up on the bed, and ran right over the laptop keyboard. The dog tore off two keys. I was pissed. I convinced myself that with enough time I could get the keys back into place as it looked like nothing had snapped off. I took his desk lamp and positioned it a few inches from the keyboard so i could see better. After working with it for like an hour I was able to get the keys back on. How glad I was. Then I pulled the halogen lamp away from the keyboard to notice it completely melted like 9 keys. Melted so badly they somehow bent straight up into the air. FFVVVCCKKKK. It was then I learned you can buy laptop keyboards really cheap on ebay.
