Last week I polled our illustrious, long-time F-Chat member, Dr Who, for some insights into the Skip Barber MX-5s and Laguna Seca. I remembered that he had some experience with these cars on this track.

The quality of information he provided was that of a highly experienced and fast driver. Perhaps I underestimated his experience and his innate driving talent. Dr Who provided a level of insight that I wasn't expecting and I think that reason is because Dr Who is very humble.

As an individual, Dale over-delivers. The information he provided allowed me to get up to speed--against experienced competitors--in one session.

Make no mistake, this guy knows how to go fast.

So, very publicly: Thank you, Dale.

what do you mean by "fast"? A couple hundredths, tenths, a second, a few seconds? Dale certainly knows how to drive and has more passion than most. These days you can find hundreds of in-car on You Tube, back in 2004 I really liked the instructional CD the FCA put together for Laguna Seca. Not completely a racing perspective, but good for first timers like myself.

Thanks Brian, but you give me w-a-y too much credit. The only reason I could help was because Brian was racing the Skippy MX-5 car at LS and guess where and what in I took my racing course? Yep, dat's right.

So, I remembered a little bit about what Skippy taught us on how to drive a momentum car at Laguna, and this is what I shared with Brian.

Rob, my recollections would probably next to useless for you in your Challenge Car. For example, in the MX-5 car you must get the strongest possible push off the exits in T5 and T6 because you are going uphill.

But seriously, Brian is a far better driver than I will ever be and so are you Rob. I was just able to help out my fellow man in this specific case. If it had been a different track, like VIR, my advice would be about as helpful as tits on a hog.

However, if Brian wants to send me a coaching fee... :)

Let's put it this way, Rob.

Having never been to the place or driven those cars, I applied what Dale told me. By Practice 2, I posted fast lap in a field of eleven cars, including nine drivers who had driven those cars on that track.

The subtleties that he conveyed were the mark of an experienced, thoughtful driver.

I dunno. We were in his Stradale a few years back and he wouldn't go over 145mph. I don't know if he's that fast.

LOL when I met Dale he had the 550 but he had just blown the coolant hoses on the track, so no ride in that.
