No sane person likes war. However with human nature being what it is, war is a dirty business that sometimes has to be done. As such I rarely talk about my military experiences. Most people do not know I have been in the military. However, I was an Engineer Officer, paratrooper, sharpshooter, explosives expert, expert in Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Warfare, and an expert in Atomic Demolition Munitions (suitcase nuclear explosives or bombs). If there was ever a limited nuclear war, ADMs might have been used to close mountain passes and trap large armies. As such I was one of a few people trained to jump as part of a two man team behind enemy lines with an 80 lb atomic bomb on my chest. Then hand place it and set less than 15 minutes on a timer. Then try to get under cover before a mushroom cloud appeared. With no cancer in the family, last summer I was told that I might have skin cancer. If it was the bad type of skin cancer, would only have a short time to live. If it was the good type of skin cancer, then I could expect to live a normal life. The tests for cancer were positive, but it was the good type. The US Government has agreed to pay for the treatments. Generally the label machine for blood samples spits out a label or two. In my case it spit out a stream. Test tubes of my blood were sent to seven different labs due to the things I have worked with. I called the nice lady who took all the blood samples a vampiress. All these tests have come back negative. So they are going to cut out the cancer and cover the areas with skin grafts (plastic surgery). I asked if they could remake me into Bill Gates or John Wayne or at least remake me into 19 again. They said the government would not pay for that. The surgeon is suppose to be one of the best, but some scars are still expected. It was suppose to happen on Oct 20 with outpatient visits on Nov 3 and Nov 10. Then checkups each year. Yesterday I was in for a EKG and lung tests (all great). Also a meeting with the anthologist. They said that they had a cancellation for Thursday. Did I want it. So I go in for surgery tomorrow morning at 6:30 AM at the Jamaica Plain (Boston) VA Medical Center (617-232-9500). Operation is expected to last about two hours, possibly longer. Then transferred to the West Roxbury (also Boston) VA Medical Center (617-323-7700) for recovery. Scheduled to be there for four days for recovery. Complete recovery is expected. First time I have stayed overnight in a hospital. Will learn what VA hospitals are like. They asked if I had any special diet needs. I asked for steak and lobster with a glass of fine wine each night. They turned down the request. I asked if they had high speed internet access. They do not. I wander what kind of hospital is this. Will see it for the first time tomorrow. I am a fighter and survivor. I expect things to go right. If things go wrong, I wanted to say thanks to all who have helped. I love driving Ferraris.
Sound like you are getting great care. I wish you well. BTW- You might pickup a wireless network in the hospital. You could always search.
Best wishes and best of luck. Our prayers will include you. Keep that fighting spirit and let us know how you are as soon as you know. Den.
Dave, A positive attitude is the first step to a speedy recovery. Let us know how you are doing after you get out.
Good luck. Things are looking positive with the test results so far. Hopefully the surgery will go fine and your recovery will be swift.

This is the first car I have ever had stolen. Since it is an almost daily driver, I thought there would be no change (except maybe for the better) if it is repaired correctly. Who makes the best alarm systems? Of course will get adquate theft insurance. It has been going on since November, but on Friday the contract was signed. My main corporation will be Enterprise Computer Systems Architects for a large financial company in Boston. We will improve their business processes and change their computer systems Enterprise wide. Will arrive in Boston within the next two weeks and will probably be there a year. Who is good to work on Ferraris in Boston if needed (will still use Algars). Also best areas for real estate. Best clubs? Good Ferrari events. Thanks.

I am not pleased with the way the police handled it, but this could also be my lack of complete knowledge. As the old saying goes, it is not over until the fat lady sings". Thanks again to all who helped. Thanks for the column information. It takes a load off my mind that the part is probably available. In the bunch of messages I need to get to, there is probably something from Algar's. Dave: I will take you up on your kind offer to introduce me to the audio people. I will be back in DE first of next week but only for about 6 or 8 hours. Later will be back longer and we can do it then if it is convenient for you. Probably will give the audio place a call before then so I can start looking at their recommendations. Enjoy the driving, Dave
Obviously, you are a fighter. Good for us, good for you. We can't really thank you for your service (and thank god that we didn't have to), but I'm sure everybody here must acknowledge that you caught a disease because of your military service. That's not really supposed to be part of the job description, so you should get some recognition- here, and elsewhere, including by the Gov't- for what you are going through right now. I think alot of the crisis is the worry, and the waiting, and often, the inoperability- you may be lucky (here's hoping) that the surgery gets it, and you have many full, enjoyable years ahead. I'm sure you've heard stories of folks that did just that- one of my neighbors, when I was a child, was told he was going to die of it, for sure- he went to Africa, on Safari, since it was his wish. He went into remission after that, and as far as I know, is still around- that was probably close to 40 years ago. Good luck- you have our best blessings!
