Once again The great Fantango pulls it off. Weather aside, it was a great weekend.
Friday night after arriving at the hotel, we had great conversation and a
great meal. Wonderful stories from Bjorn and Warren about some of the
restorations they have done (including the Ralph Lauren collection). Coach I
joined in with some of his stories of Ferrari ownership over the years. And
his lovely wife Julie gave our little grouping a bit of charm and elegance.
Afterwards, we capped off the night (or early morning) with one last drink
    thanks to David Sebok.
Saturday morning welcomed the rain that we had for so long dodged.
But like true troopers, everyone gathered at Coach I's beautiful estate as
promissed. Both Coach I and Julie were the perfect hosts as we have now
become accustomed. And David, our chapter president, was acting as such.
He began his day before 7:00 am making sure we had maps for the drive,
FCA club information, and even a few refreshments to start the day.
When Ken arrived early with his 355 GTS having some sort of problem, he
asked Coach if he might use his jack. Coach instead moved his testarossa
from the garage to give Ken full use of his lift and tools. It made for quite
a scene, watching Ken work on his car while we viewed the F40.
Let's admit it, that's what we were there to do. I have seen my share of
F40's, but this one seemed special. I think, after just recently viewing
Coach I's exceptional collection, which includes some of the most desireable
of the 12-cylinder Ferraris: two Daytonas, 512 BBi, testarossa, and a
Maranello. But the F40 is a supercar and it knows it. It almost dominates
    the garage.
After the viewing we were treated to a concert as Coach I climbed in the
cockpit and started the red metal monster. I didn't ever see the guage.
I don't know how many rpms, but I can still hear the sound.
Next it was to the front entrance for some group photos. And with the
rain threatening, everyone jumped in their cars and were off for the next
    phase of Fantango's wacky weekend.
As the group pulled off like a line of fighters on a carrier deck, I looked
back to see Coach I on top of his deck looking like the ship's captain.
Job well done guys. Now let's see some pics.

I actually posted this in another thread, so I am repeating it here....thanks again guys

My wife and I really enjoyed hosting the brave souls who braved the weather...though disappointed that one or two didn't drive their F-cars...though very refreshing to see a superbly restored 330 GT 2+2 that didnt melt in the rain make it from four hours away.

OK guys, these cars don't melt. The older ones do leak a bit, but is was an opportunity to pinpoint the leaks for repairs.

I am sorry I dont have pictures to post. I was too busy arranging the cars around the flagpole and moving my beast from the garage. I am sure some very nice pictures were taken and will be posted soon.

The drive up to highlands on 28 eas challenging and an experience. I had driven that road on my ZR-1 before...but never in a Ferrari. My Maranello did quite well, despite was seemed to be 600 turns
instead of the 300 or so advertised... I had a hard time keeping up with David Challenge car, but then again he is a very good experienced driver. The others behind me didnt keep up with me either...tough to do on that road...if you have never driven it, you should give it a try...it is quite a challenge. This is where you find out that a fifth or sixth gear are totally useless....

As for the F-40, I regretted not driving it up there till we got to highlands...then was happy I didn't. It would have scraped the bottom several times on those dips and rough road. There were a couple of potholes on the road up there but all in all the road was superb, newly paved in NC and a bit rough in Ga. SC was smooth.

Hope to see all my new acquaintances soon at another event...and if someone would pitch in and help David organise it, we may be able to avoid rain for once. But if there is drought in your neck of the woods, do contact David and ask him to organize an event...it seems a 100% certainty that i will, judging by recent record....hahahaha.

    Thanks for coming.

beautiful pictures!!! thanks for posting them

and since I didnt drive my beast yesterday, i took it out today...what an exhilirating experience....it is awesome.

Thanks gain for coming brave souls and rain does not dissolve Ferraris, and if you dry you cars or store them in a/c garage they wont rust either. Someone told me a good air compressor is essential to get water out of the nooks and whatever.

    See you next time

Adrian, you are quite an eloquent person and a good artist...thanks for all the kind words, Julie and I have both enjoyed getting to know you and Tony, and the reason I was on the deck of my house was not to captain any ships...I was there to make sure everyone was out before I locked the front gate, which I do from the house. It was funny to read that though...hehehe

Coach, I am glad to here you got out today. I wish I had known, as I could not resist and logged another 200 miles in the mountains rather than heading home. Without you coach and the "Tornado Chasers" (that's right, we are chasing tornados and hail storms in our Ferraries) there would be no event. Thank you! Also thanks to all for braving the weather and for coming from afar. It's about the people- that to me is what makes these cars great. Also Ralph Thomas and his friends at Bat Competition were simply amazing, as were Bjorn, Warren, and Hector. Thank you NEW MEMBERS for joining and participating.

Now for the next event....details coming.

41K for that car is stunning. Can you imagine smoking around VIR in that? It would be worth getting a trailer for.

What is the small red barchetta next to the black stations wagon?

    Where are these photos from?

    Thanks,

    ken

Glad to hear that you made it back okay. Sorry to hear about the
bearing. I guess it could have been worse. The pictures are from
the part of the trip that you missed to BAT Competition. As far as
the red barchetta, maybe David knows.

I would also like to give thanks to David and Coach I for a nice event..Besides the "monsoon" Saturday morning, it was a great day. It is not often you get the pleasure to see such a nice "private" collection of F-cars. Once again, many thanks!!!!!

Ken that car is a Stanguelini raced in the Milie Miglia and is the car that influenced the development of the AC Ace. Notice the front end design.
Extremly cool car with tons of history
