Don't know how many of you caught the F1 practice last night on NBC SP. But that F1 sound the F355 is know for, well, it isn't the F1 sound of today. The lower reving, V6, turbo charged F1 engines sound like real turds. Watching the car going around the track and hearing them was a complete disconnect. The sound really made the car appear slow. It was like watch F1 cars with a motor cycle race sound track. And get this, due to the new KERS system "Mechanics and track marshals must now wear rubber gloves and the cars have high voltage warning signs on them." Seriously!!!!

    Life goes on John.

When electric cars become what they will become someday, there will be no sound at all.

I watched practice and I agree, I do not like the sound. Hopefully it grows on me, but right now I think it sucks.

Yes, Bob, life goes on. It just seems strange. It will take some getting used to. It's just not very agressive sounding. I also think there will be a lot of DNFs due to the new technoloigy.

Not really, more like a bunch of leaf blowers and vacuum cleaners, I do not appreciate the reminder that I have chores that need attending to while trying to watch Formula 1.

So then it's good our 355's (and 348's) can bring us back to a happier time of screaming V8s :)

It is true that they don't sound like the V10's and V12's of yester-year, but considering the new technology, the electric motors, batteries and two KEERs systems, you have to think this is the future.

They might not be faster today, but by the end of the season or in a year or two, they are going to get so much more out of those cars, they are a serious push forward in technology. And what is interesting is that the new supercars have this technology in them, and they are faster than the old non KEER counterparts.

I will wait until I can hear the race and see them in person. Will Buxton said they sound very, very cool, albeit different, but very tech.

I wonder how hard it would be to put a F355 soundtrack over the F1 cars...

I agree, the changes they made for '14 are awesome, looking forward to the season.

Buxton was trying to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. The broadcasters know this will impact the viewer because it just doesn't sound as exciting as it used to. I can't wait until the cars are all electric, fuel cell powered and all you hear as they go by is wooossssh with a little motor hum. Oh wait, the car will probably have audio system playing a cranky V10 at 19k rom at 110 dB. :D

With mostly "single file" racing going on in the recent past hopefully we will see more passing in 2014. Otherwise the muted engines will just drive more viewers away. Plus with the SPEED channel dieing I miss most of the races anyway :(

They could fix that easily by making the starting order the inverse of the previous races finishing order. Would probably be exciting for the first 10 or 20 laps while giving the back markers a chance.

Better watch out John! Soon the public will start to like the new F1 sound and the 355 will just sound like a whinny woman. The 348 sound will be the new rage and 348 prices will be on parity with the 355. O M G!

    Hey Paul,

15k rpm V6 vs. 18k V8 and 19k V12...... I was looking for a video like that. You beat me to it.

Heck FBB, I've never particularly been a fan of the F355 sound. Not why I bought the car. I actually prefer the low rumble of the stock exhaust on my 308 QV and the sound of my Boxster.

    Yes I stand corrected. Maybe I heard an historic F1 ... ;)

Part of the problem is 90 degree angle v6's never sound good.

I couldn't really get inspired by the new sound of F1. Lower and rumbly kind of like Indycar now, or maybe Indylights with those Buick Wildcat engines. Going to definitely miss the high rev wail of former years. Well, at least my goth muffed 348 will fill the void. :)

Love the sound of a high revving 355 with the proper exhaust. I used this sound on the start page of my website...just go to dwmerritt.com and press the start button...enjoy:)
Sometimes I play it over and over again...it's music to your ears. :)
