I haven't owned a true vintage car in a number of years, but I recently purchased an Aston DBS. The car has not been driven in approximately 12 years. I am in the process of taking it a apart and replacing items that commonly go bad when a car sits before I try to start it.

So far, I have gotten all the old gas out of the gas tank and removed the gas tank and taken it to a place to be refurbished. I am in the process of removing the radiator and water pump. The gas looked awful, the coolant looked extremely clean.

Anyway, I'll try and document some of the work here as I go along. I am figuring out things as I go, so I welcome any helpful comments as I am sure many of you have a lot more experience with this type of work than I do. I'll post some pictures in my next post.

    Thanks for reading.

Removed the top of the dash last night to have it recovered. It is covered in vinyl not leather. Only 4 screws hold it in place.

Removing the clutch and brake master cylinders. The manual makes it seem simple, but there are clearly some steps missing so it’s taking longer than expected. Hopefully, I’ll have them out tonight so I can send the brake master out to be rebuilt. I already have a new clutch master to install.

Finally got the master cylinders out. Forgot to take a picture of the brake master cylinder before I sent it out to be rebuilt. I’ll post a picture of it when I get it back.

Plenty of other work to do in the meantime.

Got the rebuilt front calipers mounted again and replaced both the front rubber brake hoses. The next step is to remove the rear calipers and send them out to be rebuilt.

So the car has inboard brakes in the rear that you access through a panel under the rear seats. Great unless you have to change the rotors.

Thanks for all the positive comments and likes. I’ll try to do a better job of posting more pictures of how it is progressing.

Got the gas tank back from being refurbished a few months ago. It is in the car but I need to start hooking it up to the fuel lines. I also need to clean the fuel lines that I’m not replacing to get all the old gas out of them.

Got the clutch slave cylinder out. I think this shows why you need to replace it when the car has sat for too long.

Out with the old and in with the new.

Great threads and congratulations! How is the body condition? The floor pan photo looked very clean but was from the inside. You are doing honorable work, sir!

Thanks for the kind words. The paint and body are really nice. I think the car was painted shortly before it was put into storage. From what I understand, the car was originally in Switzerland for a year or so and then spent most of its life in Nevada so there really isn't any corrosion. Here is a picture from the auction catalog.

Following along with interest. Someday I'd love to do what you're doing here; sympathetically wake up a sleeping beauty like that, without having to go through the trouble and expense of a restoration. Always loved the lines on these Astons.
