I thought Schumacher was going to take him; he definately had the faster car. He'll get him in Spain hopefully, and maybe give him a little love tap if he continues to block with his 2 sec slower car.

That was one of the best racces i had seen in a long time. I wanted to see Shumi come back from 13th and win, but it was still good. That one pass on Button was amazing!!!!!

Great race. Too bad it had an "F1 for Dummies" announcing crew. Derek Daly and that other guy were absolutely horrible...

How many times did he have to say bam, slam, and boom? He's not John Madden....

The clowns on speedTV aren't great, but I'm definately not looking forward to the remaining 3 CBS races....

    Hi Jay,

I'd like to take a different "take" on the CBS coverage of Imola. With a country so ga-ga over NASCAR, it takes a bit of hand holding ("F1 for Dummies") and instruction, to entice the NASCAR fans and casual observers to check out Formula 1 action.

Everyone I spoke with after the race (albiet, tape delayed), felt very entertained and all felt that the camera shot selection was top notch. I think, that to draw people into the fold, we must provide excitement and a bit of instruction too. I think CBS did it right today. I agreed with the line, "if you're not on the edge of your seat by now, you're taking up too much room!! :)

    Cheers, Hank

I agree that it absolutely was an incredible race to show to the general public. CBS got really lucky with that! The racing spoke for itself - and at least the last laps were shown (apparenly ITV in England cut to commercials and missed the end of the race other than the last lap!).

However, it almost felt like flashbacks to when Fox started showing NHL games (remember hockey?). They had glowing pucks, cheesy animation, etc. It just was overdoing it, and really didn't do a whole hell of alot to describe the differences between american racing series and F1.

Back in the late 80's / early 90's, I used to watch CART racing - but I got so damn tired of listening to Bobby Unser ramble on, as well as seeing them cutaway to driver's wives looking concerned in the final laps. I gave up on it, and never watched either current series again....

We'll see how they do on their second race. Hopefully they'll bring the level up a bit.

Faster car? MS had more than 10 laps to get around Alonzo. Was the car slower or did Alonzo outdrive him? As talented as Schumacher is, one would think if he had the "faster car" he could get around him in 10 laps.

Nonetheless, a great race for F1. It was a good thing that it was aired on network TV as it would be a good step to get the American public interested in F1.

All F1 needs from CBS is their HD cameras. HD cameras and the announcers from Speed; I'd also like to see a bit more of the G-force meter Speed has used in previous races.

The feed was the standard one from Bernie - the typical interational feed that even Speed gets. The only difference is that CBS actually has HD transmission capability - so we got some better quality just because of that alone.

    If only Speed would upgrade.....
