My Mondial t has a Ferrari alarm and immobiliser, installed in 1994, Model reference MC/3950/3. Is this recognised as a Thatcham Category 1 system?

If not, can it be upgraded, or do I need a completely new system?

Clifford, Cobra, Toad? Any advice on which is the best would be appreciated.

Take a look at the list http://www.thatcham.org/security/pdfs/categories/PassengerCarCAT1.pdf.

My Fcar was fitted with a Cat 1 system, but as the company had stopped trading and so fell off the list, my insurance company insisted on a new one.
I had a Toad fitted. Clifford seem to be rated but I have heard of a few problems from a couple of people.

My car electric fitter uses Laserline andin 5 years has never had one come back to him with any problems. Most are Cat 1 or 2.

Mine has got an Appollo 2002 Thatcham Cat 2 - and it appears to work faultlessly (should have got one put on the Rover...)

Does your insurance insist on a Cat 1 alarm?

The first thing I’ve done on almost every "high risk" car I’ve ever purchased is had a Clifford system installed, and they’ve all been great. Had toad system too, kept going off after driving in heavy rain though, never got to the bottom of that one. Most of problems that I’ve heard of occur due to poor installation, and it my have been the case with the toad.

Would your insurance go up if a £200 car had a £600 alarm on, would you be paying for an £800 car!?!?!?!?!:D:D

I had a Laserline fitted to an Alfa I had some time back, worked well, no problems.

Do a search, I recall somebody on the forum having a Clifford and experiencing serious problems

Thanks for your advice guys, I'll talk to my local alarming company about Clifford, and Cobra.

So far the insurance company hasn't asked for a Cat 1. but I'm currently on the old M3 insurance, transferred to the Mondi. I'll change in the Summer.

I also thought it might be nice to have remote locking and full closure on the Mondi as well.
