the plunger switch in the back is only for the brake light contact. The one for the latch is a micro switch in the latch it's self. If the switch is bad and showing that the back lid is not closed, with F1 it will not let it in gear. With 6 speed, can drive all day with latch open if you like. Check that latch switch.

Thanks for that explanation Steve, so the TBL circuit runs through the same switch that tell you if the hatch is open? I guess Ferrari do some weird electrics.

Alan, the plunger provides power for the TBL only. The micro switch that triggers the "hatch open" light is in the catch mechanism. Over time, the spring on that micro switch can lose tension and often can be repaired just by bending it back.

Thanks, Steve, but I was only restating Jerry's comment, so the credit goes to him : )

You are obviously not cut out to work on these things. It takes knowledge, patience and experience (and sometimes a little luck) to figure things out, especially without the SD2. I just went through an F1 issue and it took all 4 of the above.

    Is the CEL on?

If so, have you read it? What are the codes?

If it's this much trouble, don't rely on a bunch of anonymous internet knuckleheads. Take it in and get it sorted. Or you could always part it out! :)

I had a random F1 light come on solid with a few beeps. This was happening during almost every drive. There was never any shifting issues.
I replaced the $35 brake light switch in a few minutes, and have not had an issue in over a year now. I'm not saying that it's the same problem as yours, but I'm mentioning it just to show that the weirdest things can cause a problem with these cars.
By the way, I've had Ferrari mechanics tell me that it was impossible for that to cause the problem. I have also had other Ferrari mechanics say that they weren't sure, but it was worth a shot. Since it used to do it daily and hasn't done it in approximately a year since I replaced the switch, I would have a hard time thinking that it was a coincidence.
