So glad it was converted back to a berlinetta. So much better looking....and how it came from the factory.
0872 was restored to allow either the spider or berlinetta configuration. The photos above show it mostly as a berlinetta (LeMans config.), but one, post 20, shows it as a spider (Monza config.)
My favorite Ferrari, the 312P spyder. I can remember listening to the hourly updates on the radio from the '69 Sebring 12 hours and how close the Amon/Andretti duo came to winning the race outright from the Gulf Ford GT40 of Ickx/Oliver.
here's a decent video of the Mas du Clos track with some of the other grounds shown. I read they were trying to close the track end of last year, what's the current status? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvjIM_Ky9IE[/ame]
It was originally restored as a spider, then put back in its original coupe configuration to qualify for vintage racing. It can not just be "swapped" back and forth easily. The whole center section is different. Not to mention it looks beautiful as a coupe...and that is how it left the factory.
Yup, they got pole and would have won overall if not for a late pit stop. Still won the class though.

My fault I misread his post to read it was a 1969. Seems it was the other way around, my mistake. Regardless, there are similarities in the front end.
The circuit has been closed since August 2007. I signed an online petition against closure over a year ago, which can be found here: http://petitionpublique.fr/PeticaoVer.aspx?pi=MDC2010 Here's the circuit's website: http://www.masduclos.fr/index-2.htm There is no information in English as far as I can make out. Onno
Keep in mind that the Cobra was essentially an AC Ace that dated from before Shelby stuck a V8 in it and called it a Cobra. I dont know when the Ace production started, but I would guess mid-1950s. PDG
Sorry, that is just plain inaccurate. PGS restored the car and brought it out for its first outing at PBIR/Moroso in 2006 (#19 and #119). It was restored initially as a coupe. The car only turned a small number of laps due to bodywork clearence issues. Swapping the car from Coupe to spyder does require different body panels which were produced as part of the restoration. After it was sold to AM in 2007 it was shown as a spider for its first european event (#170). I have photos of it in both configurations, as well as the stripped chassis and engine, prior to it being sold. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Odd, what I have read is different. But I will take your word for it. So the car was made originally as a coupe, then became a spider (I think?), then became some one off car for NART. Then it was restored as a coupe, then made into a spider, then back to a coupe which is how it is now. Am I correct?
The restoration by PGS was a Herculian effort, I was involved with the very beggining when all the various components were acquired from Carl Conway around 1985 or so. It was a very ambitious project to say the least but IMHO PGS is well placed in a conversation about PB and the great Ferrari enthusiasts of our time...a very private man so his exploits are not as well known. He is also one of the finest drivers I have ever had the pleasure of working with and that would include some others that members of this forum would know well.
Is this why the the photo seems to show different rear wheels? I assume they got this all taken care of as the car has been vintage raced many times since correct? I do notice how 0872 seems to have a wider track and sit lower the 0870...
0868 was a spider and was crashed. Chassis used for 512s show car. 0870 was a spider and was converted to a coupe for LeMans. It is still a coupe and has been since LeMans. 0872 was originally a coupe And used in place of 0868 at LeMans. It now can be configured either way depending on what the owner would like. It is done by adding the roof/ windshield piece, changing the doors and the tail section. It is not as complicated as you might think as it was cleverly done. You will see it as a coupe or spider depending on the event. History can be found here. http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/0872.312P.htm
Thanks for the information. Although I am not sure it will ever be converted back to a spider since to be eligible for the Ferrari Classiche certificate, the car had to be in it's original coupe configuration. Also, you see my post #46?
The wheels are not different. It is silver weight tape that you see on the rear in the first photo I could not say. The chassis type is the same on both cars. As far as I know, the two cars have not been together since LeMans in 69, so direct comparison is difficult.
