Several years ago I published a copy of the build sheet for 0868/72 on this Forum. It was interesting to see that 0868 was crossed out and 0872 was written in it's place. I am not sure if the document can be found on this site anymore?

Was that a actual build sheet or the document for LeMans where Ferrari switched numbers? I would assume at some point after 0872 got an updated build sheet anyway as by then everyone knew it was 0872, not 0868?

If I am not mistaken 0872 was built from the remains of 0868 after LeMans 1968. Please recall that after the stunning success of the 7 liter GT40s the FIA changed the rules limiting prototypes to 3 liters and GT cars to 5 liters. The 312P was a stop gap measure using a formula one motor and many components common with the P4.
The Chinetti family later used 0872 for parts to build their own version of the 312PB. a car actually built by Wayne Sparling.
Ney is also very knowledgable about this car and PGS does monitor this board.

0872 was not built from 0868, 0872 was a new car. They called it 0868 to get it in LeMans. But afterwards everyone knew it was a new car. 0868's remains are under the yellow 512 show car...

Was 0868 the Amon/Schetty car written off during the first lap of the '69 Le Mans 24?

The car that hit the burning fuel tank was 0872 entered at LeMans as 0868 since 0868 was heavily damaged at Monza.

Let me explain. 0868 was written off, but before LeMans and is now under the yellow 512 concept car. The car that had the mishap at LeMans was entered as 0868 by Enzo, but was really 0872 which is the car seen in the last few posts all restored to perfection. Hope this helps.

Thanks all, yeah that's kinda what I figured initially, but was too lazy to check my references! I knew that one of the 312Ps had a big accident at Monza, Rodriguez blew a tire IIRC.

That led to the accident. After the tire blew it damaged the rear body work. The crew rushed to get it reinstalled, but didn't do a good job. So as soon as the car hit the long fast straight the rear body work flew off making the car spin and crash out. Luckily, nobody was hurt. The 312 P was one of the earlier cars to use a semi monocoque which I'm sure helped.

Very intersting thanks for posting. That was the first of two incidents he had, the second one was the knock out which damaged it beyond repair with the remains of the chassis then used by Pininfarina.

As both Amon and Schetty confirmed to me there wasn't in fact that much damage but the stress of the fire and the death of John Woolfe meant that the last thing on Amon's mind was to even think of continuing and getting the car sorted would have taken hours.

The very first photo I posted on "More old photos" shows all four drivers and the tails of both cars.

I know that the center section body work is aluminum on the 312 P. What about the front and back clips? Aluminum or fiberglass?
