Why not take inspiration from the original 348LM that the engine came from mate. That had a standard engine lid, so what air filter system did it use?
OMG that looks UBER hot, Sy you will have one bad a$$ 348 soon. Cutting a hole in the lid hmmm I might have a solution for you. I just ordered a part from 9xauto a Porsche parts store, I ordered a scoop that I thought might fit on the solid back flat part of Ferrari and give it a more aggressive look in the rear end. Long story short it is a smidgen to long for what I want but might be perfect for your engine mod. It is a well designed scoop and fits well with the lines of the 348, I know you use to own a 944S2 so you might be familiar with this aftermarket piece. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I don't have a problem with modifying the engine lid, but if I put a vent on the engine lid, would air be pushed in? Ideally, I'd like to have a glass hatch on the rear to show the engine off (I'm a poseur not a racer ). I don't think they used a filter system at all. They had a carbon box placed over it to protect it from debris. See pic below. I'm thinking maybe create a filter box to that size and fixing it to the engine lid. So when the lid is raides, the TB's/velocity stacks can be seen??? This still means that the engine is taking in warm air. Perhaps stick a pipe from the aircon into the filter box???? Engine pumps out 480bhp with a rev limit to 9,400. The plan is to reduce it to 450bhp and 8,500rpm using 97 octane fuel. I'm also installing... - Motec M800 ECU - Racelogic traction control system - Quantum Racing adjustable dampers & springs I already have 6 pot AP ARcing brakes at the front with an option to replace with carbon discs. I'm curious Sy, will this need to be serviced more regularly than a standard 348 engine? All the best, Andrew.
Boy this is going to be cool! I hope you put those centerlocks on too. Keep up us to date on the build with lots of pictures!
You sound like my wife!!! Should be normal service routines plus I'll do a 6 month oil change plan. Interestingly, the Ferrari cambelt I sent didn't actually fit the engine, so they put an Alfa Romeo belt on it instead. Still not sure about the centrelocks. They have been shipped to the UK now so will have a look at them next week.
Sorry Ernie, I have no idea. It was a brief conversation on the phone so I didn't get any details.. I'll get full info on the engine when I take it back there for the mapping and will post up.
Use a nice lexan glass cover with louvers to let hot air out away from the box. then have the center section raised at the back end a bit so it generates a high pressure point and have a forward facing scoop kind of like the one roberto showed you to suck some nice cooled air in. Remember to not generate too much high pressure zones beside it. I am not sure how to explain, I have the picture in the head. I will see if I can draw it out. Raise the center section. Leave the rest more or less stock-ish with the reverse scoops to evacuate hot air from the motor. And remember to give the intake system some kind of wrapping to prevent too much of that hot air from sinking in thermal energy into that airbox. Cooler air = more power.
I wish all this talk of cutting the engine lid would stop Sy keep it as per the Le mans racer mate. Engineer around the problem of the filters. Research the original Le mans car setup. Surly one of us on here can source pictures of the engine sat in the Le mans cars engine bay.
More likely 380bhp at 8500 would be my guess. Torque likely to be very disappointing too as I image this engine has a very short throw. Throw a piece of glass over it and convert it to the world's best coffee table?
Huh? Why would you come here and say that fella? What are you basing that on, fact or spiteful BS? Out of interest, are you a clubscud member? That would explain a few things.
Or throw it in the corner of the lounge room and make it the worlds best "art piece" like this 360 engine? Image Unavailable, Please Login
That beautiful work of Italian art.......on a Wallmart trolley Attention to details gentlemen, chrome feet would have been more fitting IMO
