Well I'm not quite 40 - yet - but yesterday I finally pulled the trigger and picked up a 1992 348 ts from ACV Wholesale in San Diego. Rossa Corsa with black interior, 16,021 miles on the clock and 45K was the price of admission.

I had Gary Bobileff at Bobileff Motors do the PPI and everything checked out - needs a major which was anticipated due to the age of the car, and sales price was adjusted accordingly. It has a good title, never auctioned, no accidents and always locally owned (San Diego/La Jolla) from new. It goes in to Gary's on Monday to get the service up to date.

As a long time lurker I wanted to thank the community for all the discussion here - although I was a "fly on the wall" it really helped me to choose the model I wanted, what to look out for, etc. I almost bought an NSX a few months ago, and I can't imagine how disappointed I would feel to have the NSX sitting in the garage rather than the 348.

I'm looking forward to meeting some of my fellow Southern California F-chatters over the summer - thanks again for the all the info on this site, what a great resource!

Congrats. But if you had selected the NSX I don't think you would feel disappointed at all. Both are fine cars. Similar performance, different personalities. Sounds like you got a nice deal, especially for this time of year. Hope you enjoy many miles in the new car!

I had the trigger halfway pulled on that very same car last month. I really wanted it but I wanted red/tan a little more. I ended-up buying the 91 at Symbolic. Both cars needed the 30k done. Mine is at FOA getting it done right now. I think you made a good choice it looks like a really nice example. Keep us posted on how everything comes along with it!

Congrats! I'll be over at Bobileff's tomorrow - I'm having his body guy do a respray on my 328 front bumper. Hopefully I'll see you or your car there.

Now you have to subscribe and post pics! Or I will.

And, no, an Acura wouldn't give you the same kind of rush every time you walk out to the garage. ;)

Ha! You are assuming I have actually left the garage - my wife is pleading with me come back in the house and I've only had the car for 24 hours. This could get ugly!

Thanks for the link No Doubt - that is a fantastic resource for 348 owners.

Well it looks like Gary is getting backed up with work and can't take the car in until next Monday - this is just killing me having the car parked in the garage. But every time I get the urge to take it for a drive, I simply have to refer back to the thread with the 348 where the timing belt broke... patience, patience...

He is totally booked. My car's scheduled to be ready Monday, so I'll be over there to pick it up. Hopefully will get a chance to see your 348 then.

Fortunately I'm out of town most of this week, or the empty space in the garage would be driving me nuts. At least your garage looks better...

You looked cramped behind the wheel, can you extend your arms better? what is the black thing in front of you on your lap, is that part of the door panel? or is that your belly? how is the fit with your legs? How tall are you Gary? Just wondering, I am thinking of giving up on 348 platform myself, don't want to look stupid behind the wheel. I bought a TR from a bank, thinking of trading it in for a 550 which accomadates bigger guys. I just hate the look of a fat guy behind the wheel of a little car. Happy motoring big guy.

A bit harsh, but you make one valid point: big guys need steering wheel extenders/spacers. Ricambi (fchat sponsor) and OGRacing both have some decent Ferrari 348 steering wheel spacers. Get the 1 inch or the 1.25 inch spacers. This brings the steering wheel closer to your body, which big guys need because our seats are further back to accomodate our legs.

Easy, easy installation with just a few turns of a hex wrench/key.

If your seat is further back, then your steering wheel needs to move that much in the same direction, too.

I am embarrassed, upon further examination, that big black round thing is his stomach, not the door panel, my bad.

That picture of him in the street, what is that big round thing in front of his chest????????? First I thought it was part of the door, than stomach, than something mounted on passenger door, now I think it is too big for a stomach??? What is that it is killing me, I gotta know????? Please someone tell me what that is??
