Wasn't it Bridgestone that did the "questioning"? IIRC (but haven't checked) when inflated correctly they were too wide. Nothing to do with changing the rules, just enforcing what was already there. They were, as always, "pushing the envelope", and did change them to comply with the existing rule. Now, *maybe* one could argue the timing - that it was done to hurt the Michelin runners, in much the same way as the "Great Radio Debate" is believed by some to be an attempt to hobble Merc. I don't think so! And that's my exact point - We're struggling to come up with anything really! And even the three we've now got are very disputable and not "rule changes" as such in any case..... Cheers, Ian
The only reason F1 is surviving is it's growth into Asia. That's why the track events there at the expense of Europe and South America. The TV money is based on eyeballs around the world. My top 5 Overly restrictive regulation which cuts down on diversity of design, look, and engineering. Under current rules, there will never be another Ken Tyrell. Too much emphasis on "saving" and not enough "racing hard". Saving fuel, saving fuel flow, saving tires, saving engines and gearboxes. Most give up half way through just to get some points and be content. Silly rules that end up with hideous looking cars as designers work around them. Boring tracks. Bernie should demand every boring track be modified. Inconsistent stewards who make questionable decisions during the races spoiling races and being too intrusive.
Ken Tyrrell didn't do much in regards to diversity ... Colin Chapman or Mauro Forghieri ... maybe I'm being unfair to Ken ... ? Pete
That was a Derek Gardner idea. Ken went along with it, but he certainly didn't initiate the idea or design it. Ian
And in fact, I'm so pissed off right now I will! It was, quite simply, another example of them trying to circumvent the 'no active aerodynamics' rule. Not allowed for a long time. Outlawing it wasn't a rule change, it was ,as usual, simply enforcing what was already there. I will always maintain the mass damper was also 'active aero'. And finally, Michelins 'dodgy' tire sizes. They knew they were pushing it, and when called to task, changed their construction. So, I'd argue there have been no, zero, nada, mid season rule changes in the past 15-20 years! Doesn't happen and never has. Cheers, Ian
The sound sucks, but its too the point now (after 10 or so races) that I don't remember how good it was anymore, unless I think about it. Best races are always when it rains, only time we see the talent of the drives take over instead of the micro managed boring racing we get in the dry. Double points will make this years champ a joke unless it fails to change the outcome we would have seen under the old system Changing rules to try and create a better TV show seems like it should be the function of a TV producer, not a sanctioning body like the FIA Biggest complaint- Modern new track designs that are boring as hell to watch, and in locations that I could care less about.
Err, I don't think so. Charlie issued a famous clarification about FRIC. They all decided to heed his advice and removed it. No rules were changed. As for the EBD, that's an even better example; he tried to ban it at Silverstone. The teams pushed back and he couldn't force it through. He backed down and it wasn't outlawed until the following season. Next!? Cheers, Ian
1. engine sound 2. engine freeze 3. testing freeze 4. lack of refueling 5. lack of more manufacturers not being involved i can't wait to see what the lewis hamilton haters say when he comes to ferrari
The same thing the Alonso haters said: nothing But I doubt he will end up at Ferrari. Once Vettel is in, that seat will be taken for years.
Usually the case, which is a shame, there again I'd be that busy serving up so much crow, I'd miss the racing.. Unfortunately for me at least, I agree.
1... The new nose. I cannot stand the way the front of the car looks...last years the cars looked ferocious. This year you could only make them worst by adding wheel pods like Indy. 2... No testing. It's ridiculous that actually driving the car is such a limited precious thing. 3... The engine freeze. Some development should be allowed instead of locking everyone into their destiny before the first race even takes place. 4... Tires. Qualifying should be an entirely separate event 5... Rules and regs that limit pulling full potential out of the car and driver... Like fuel restrictions that limit RPM, no downforce, etc. I'd love to see refueling and I'd love to hear the scream of the cars again.
I think you'd be surprised, BTW I'll say again, I do not believe you hate any driver, you're not that fickle, maybe me a tad though
