So Napolis, when do you receive delivery?

FWIW, I think it would have looked better on a 550/575. In my mind the proportions are closer to the GTO.

Michiel, I do not in any way intend to criticize or critique any design decisions you have or will make; I am only noting something that has come to my mind:

I don't feel that the Ferrari factory-photos are to scale with your sketches above. I say this because the 250 GTO had a length of 4400 mm (173.2 in), a width of 1675 mm (65.9 in), and a height of 1245 mm (49.0 in.)

The 599 in these photos is shown as the smaller of the two cars ( 575 and 599 ) where the 599 has its dimensions as follows:

    Length 4665 mm (183.7 in)
    Width 1962 mm (77.2 in)
    Height 1336 mm (52.6 in)

...And the 575 is as follows:

    Length: 4,550 mm (179.13 in)
    Width: 1,930 mm (76.18 in)
    Height: 1,280 mm (50.27 in)

599 is near 10 inches longer than the 250 yet the sketches depict it as being significantly shorter, and the 575 as being longer. The 575 is also nearly 2in. taller than the 599, yet the 599 seems shorter.

The dimensions do not add up as to support that the 599 is a better proportional fit as compared to the 250 GTO. It is also interesting to note that the 250 photo in the above link I think was taken by Michel Zumbrunn, so as to further skew any proper dimension comparison. The 575 is a better fit sized with the 250. I'm not sure I understand why it was that you went ahead with a base car (599 GTB) that already has a very weighty, near $100K premium and a considerable size difference against a car - the 575 - which would both save you and your customers money as well as fit proportionally better to your retro scheme in the GTO.

    Best,
    Jon

The design is built up around the position of the A-pillars.
The distance between the 575 A-pillars and the front wheel is too short and the nose in front of the wheel is too long.

I've written an article for a Dutch website that explains it all: http://www.autoblog.nl/archive/2007/10/19/de-totstandkoming-van-het-gto-design
    Maybe someday I'll translate it.

OT. Michael, I was watching the Top Gear video on the Carver and saw the front badge that said Vandenbrink. Did you have any part in designing/building this car?

Dutch designer Michiel van den Brink doesn't seem to be deterred by adversity. First he set out to pen a modern interpretation of one of the most iconic homologated racing GTs of all time, the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO. Then he actually decided to build his design, basing it on the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, arguably the most dynamically sublime supercar ever to grace tarmac. When the Fiorano's 600-hp Enzo sourced V12 wasn't good enough, he teamed up with tuning house Edo Competition to turn it up to 11 by boring it out to 6.3 liters. The result? 750 horsepower. When Maranello declined to grant him its blessing, he started taking orders anyway from customers seemingly undeterred by the $1.3 million asking price... over the cost of the donor car.

Now that conjecture has begun circulating cyberspace that Ferrari is considering building a small run of convertibles based on the Fiorano, van den Brink has thrown his hat into the ring by unveiling his own design, dubbed the "GT Convertible". A far more convincing and seducing design than the photochops we've seen so far, van den Brink says he'll build it complete with a folding carbon-fiber hard-top for any interested customer.

That's some unfettered ambition, considering we've yet to see an actual copy of the Vandenbrink GTO built, yet despite an undisclosed but undoubtedly high cost for the sublime chop-job, Michiel might start taking orders before you know it.

More details are included in the press release after the jump, where van den Brink alludes to future designs to be based on the Audi R8, Spyker C8 Spyder and Corvette Z06. Oh yes, the future bears promise.

    PRESS RELEASE
    19-12-2007

Vandenbrink Design Special Order: Vandenbrink "GT Convertible"

Vandenbrink Design presents the Vandenbrink "GT Convertible" design.
The progressively styled GT Convertible had its first viewing for a selected audience during the Cercle Deluxe 2007 fair in Vienna. Like the 599/630 GTO the GT Convertible will also be based on the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, featuring a lightweight carbon fibre folding hardtop. The car will be built only on special customer request.

After the successful introduction of the 599/630 GTO the unveiling of the GT Convertible design clearly marks the Vandenbrink specialty mission: on demand design and manufacturing of unique "off-menu" automobile coachworks, based on class-leading platforms such as the Ferrari 599, Audi R8, Spyker C8 Spyder and Corvette Z06. All Vandenbrink's custom designed one-off sportscars will be tailored to your personal taste and preferences.

Michiel, I must say this to you (sure you've heard it all before) --------- uhh --------- the beauty of your designs make intelligible linguistic response virtually impossible (at least for me). I am however, able to mutter some interesting primalistic sounds while viewing your work. Talk about "blowing someone's mind" :)

    Cheers, Hank
