Might want to do a google search on this. As far as I can remember the accident rate on that specific model Bonanza is higher compared to the later (traditional) style tail sectioned Bonanza's. Might have something to do with stall and/or spin characteristics.

The entire Bonanza line are great airplanes. Reliability is good as far as airplanes go. But generally, reliability in a plane is only as good as the care ($$$) you put into it. Bonanza flying charactoristics are great - very responsive. Cruise speed is about 160 kts. The V tail cruise speed is about 160 kts and it is a four seater. The v tail does have a loyal following. However, they have been termed the doctor killers because years ago docs were the only one who could afford them. The result was a lot of inexperienced pilots with a high performance and complex airplane - a dangerous combination.

cruse speed 160--rough air penetration speed 130. tail failure on early models. beef up mod made v's stronger. seems that all lt aircraft cruise faster than structural limits allow.
