Does anyone know when the new ZR movie will be available for purchase?
I put on 479 Km and parked it yesterday at 6:30 pm before the snow flew for the winter. It will see the light of day in about 4 months. Hopefully there are some others that want to go for drives in 09. Merry X-mas, New years and see you in the spring
I am sorry to say, that Friday was my last day at Ferrari Maserati of Alberta. I resigned. Cars and customers were great, but I had enough with rest. I was astonished at the enthusiasm and level of knowledge of my Ferrari customers. I figured half the cars would go to poseurs, but that wasn't the case. Just about to a man, the Ferrari guys were hard core car people. It was the first time I ran into a customer who knew more than me! It reminds me of one of the Owners Surveys Road and Track used to do in the 60's and 70's; I recall that this was a survey of about 200 Ferrari owners from maybe 1960 to 1965. Lussos, 250's etc. Something like 60% of them did their own maintenance. R &T just couldn't believe it, it was by far the largest percentage they had seen, most cars were like 5%. Of course you can't do that now, but the passion for the cars remains the same. Anyway, a big thank you to all the guys that I met, and I am proud to have sold them cars, and we will see you on the track, or out and about. As for me, I building the year 2009, and for sure it will involve cars-I think all cars, not limited to high end. If anybody would like to be on my email list, you can email to [email protected], or call at 403-607-8625. Cheers, and happy holidays, Lawrence Romanosky Calgary, Alberta 403-607-8625
Winter Spot: Maserati Gran Turismo on 22x on Wednesday - couldn't tell the color cause it was too dark outside and he was plastered with snow. Quite surprising though.
http://www.calgaryherald.com/Cars/Dutch+premium+carmaker+enters+Calgary+market+chooses+dealer/1361457/story.html "Spyker Cars, the Dutch manufacturer of exclusive premium sports cars, has chosen the Dilawri Group of Companies as its first exclusive Spyker dealer in Calgary and in Canada. The appointment of Spyker of Calgary marks Spyker’s expansion of the North American sales and distribution into Canada. The company has 16 dealers in North America and 34 worldwide. Dilawri will feature Spyker at the 2009 Calgary International Auto & Truck Show from March 11 to 15 at Stampede Park. Two Spykers will be on display: the Spyker C8 Spyder and C8 Laviolette. The C8 Spyder, convertible, has a base model price of $219,000 US while the C8 Laviolette, coupe, has a base model price of $209,000 US. However, customers often spend thousands of dollars more on the luxury vehicles with custom options. The Dilawri Group of Companies was established in 1991 and today has 28 dealerships in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta and the newest addition in the Vancouver area. Tony Dilawri heads the Calgary operation. The C8 Spyder and the C8 Laviolette two models will be available with Canadian specifications at Spyker of Calgary by May this year. Should be interesting to see what happens in this market.
Hey Prancing_12 They mentioned this on Global the other night in their nightly business report. Those photos posted in the BC thread of the Spykers loaded in the truck must be destined for Calgary. Interesting for sure.. During the Bullrun last year, there were a couple of them that were running, and there is a local car (with US plates) in Pumphill.
I was at the unveiling last night and can say that they are very cool cars with a character and craftsmanship that is pretty rare these days. Very special cars with an awesome presence!
Let's see.......in the 17,000 foot building that used to house BMW and sell 500 cars a year, they now have Bentley that sells, what, 6 cars a year ?.....AM that sells 6 cars a year, and now Spyker that will sell 2-3 max.....all they need is about 20 more franchises to break even. Where or where will they hang all those signs.
I think they are selling more then 6 bentleys and astons a year but still see where you're coming from.... who else will they house in that 17,000 sq ft? Probably average gross on selling a BMW is $7,000 * 500 = $3.5 mil If they sell 30 AMs Bs and now Spykers for probably $30,000 gross per car = $900K This doesn't take service into mind which can easily make 4 times more $$$ annually then the sales side. But on a spotters note I did see a 360 yesterday and did have some business in the automall so dropped in to see the 2 Spykers.... very nice cars but just a little over the top interior for my tastes.
Average gross profit on a new BMW is approx $3500. Even if they sold 30 AM's and B's their average gross might be around $15K per car after discounting it. Not much money to be made on parts and servicing based on selling 30 cars a year. You would be lucky to keep two techs busy for the year....It would cost a minimum of $150K a month to "turn on the lights" in that store. Spiker will be a disaster, lucky to sell 3 a year. They will be lucky to lose $1mil a year running that store, I give them three years....
$3,500 "average" gross profit before commissions is about right on the BMW line......when you account for all models. Bentley and Aston went up in price this year due to FOREX. Bentley sales are down 70% in the US YTD........last year was record with 598 cars delivered for a market that is 10 times our size with 100 times as many millionaires. That equates to roughly 60 cars for all of Canada, but actual figures are unavailable AFAIK........so if the same holds true up here, at 70% off, that is approximately 18 cars for "all of Canada" that will be sold in 2009. Aston sales figures are just as dismal regardless..........4,000 +/- units sold worldwide last year..........and Canadian figures cannot be found AFAIK, but is in the very, very, low hundreds. Andrew Baker was quoted publicly as saying that they have "a few orders for spring delivery"......the number I heard was 4....but who knows. Lawence Romanowsky (ex of FMoA) started there last week as well.........I wish both of them well as they are colleagues of mine. Spyker delivers 100 +/- cars a year worldwide, and loses money corporately as per the last known publicly released financial information available online. They had better sell a lot of used cars (25 a month minimum) as well as hats and t-shirts if they are going to stay afloat and pay for the renovations.....
Well there is no doubt that the numbers will be down significantly for MY09, there is one important factor in keeping the doors open and lights on at Bentley/Aston/Spyker of Calgary - EGO! I don't mean that in a bad way, but I would be stunned if Mr. D closed the doors, ever. After all, he has lots of other dealerships that are making money (even now) and lots of money in the bank from better years. This whole dealership was never intended to be a cash cow, but a halo location. I agree that there is no way that place is making money today, but when lumped in with the rest of the group, the losses will be absorbed.
This just in, from Facebook (not sure if he posts here or not). There seems to be a meet on April 15 at Race City: link.
Looking into a new car... Similar models are available at Z and R auto and calgary ferrari... Car is slightly more at calgary ferrari... are these reputable companies? PM me or post any thoughts you may have... Thanks!

FMoA have a couple of very impressive cars at the auto show. They brought both a 430 Scuderia and a 599 GTB (both in red). Good stuff.
Looking forward to going to the Calgary International Car Show on Saturday. Did I also hear the Ferrari California will be there too?
