Bye bye .42 trim, hello super-60. I can't wait! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Spool-up is determined by the A/R side, and no changes there. Still the factory .63 turbine trim. Compressor housings/trims have a much smaller effect on spool time. Center cartridge will have full 360degree bearings as well. Turbos have come a long way in 15 years, and lag is pretty much a thing of the past.
That a T4 housing? Should have gone with some like the T88 LOL Looks good. I use to be into turbos and still am but havent found time to work on anything. I use to have a Honda with over 550 whp. I know its a Honda but hey i was 19..... Antony
Nope, It's all T3. The hybrid t3/t4 creates all sorts of fitment problems in the Esprit, and with the same cold side trim, there is hardly any difference in efficiency, and a huge difference in price. Here is the t3-4, Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can I ask you what kind of setup you had on your Honda that gave 550hp? I have a friend who is very familiar with the IDRA lifestyle, and has participated at LACR over the past few years, and has seen the high HP hondas, but 550 isn't dime a dozen. (He himself drove a highly modded SC300) I would be curious to learn of your setup. He had a 265hp crx turbo as well, which took about 2 years of tuning to get it there. Thnkx. It has been a while since I was in the scene myself. I sold my last Honda when I was 19 oh so many years ago. Good car, I loved it, just could never deal with FWD though.
Seems to be the 'best' option for a straigt swap or rebuild, but I have been giving a lot of thought to other options. I thought I had my mind up, but the budget just grew as of an hour ago. So, I'm off to TEC turbo Monday to sit down with Jim Latour and discuss a few more options. I was just going to send it off to Turbonetics, and have them work their magic, but TEC is a apparently a discount vendor for one of the Lotus clubs I joined. The more I research, the less confident I am in making a decision, and need a personal touch to help me along.... As for now, I'm leaning toward t3/t4 hybrid with standard trim turbine in stock A/R housing (Lotus specific T3). T04E compressor housing with super57 trim wheel, and ball bearing center section with carbon seals, oil and water cooled. and just deal with fitment as I go. The t4 uses a larger inlet, and compressor outlet sits a little higher than the T3. Also may have to reconfigure one of the heatshields. Who knows, I see what the experts have to say Monday, as they have done about a dozen local Esprits so far....and all of this depends on exactly how bad the stock turbo is when we get it completely apart.
