Show me whatever statistics you like, a 348 ain't no F40. I haven't bothered driving a 348, but I've spent a lot of time driving much faster 355s and an F40. The F40 is faster. .... much.
I don't have to backup arguments I didn't make. That's the great thing about forums - you can go back and see what was actually said. Was I "mad" to say a race prepped 348 crossed the line ahead of the F40s it was competing against in Italy in '94? No, it did it in 3 out of the last 4 races before effectively being retired. That was all I said and it was factually correct. Sorry Steve the debate ended on the "I haven't been bothered to drive a 348" line, anyway. Well, I just got up in time to see us lose so you lot can take as many pops as you like. To be fair England as a whole deserve it, we rolled over in the second innings with both bat and ball. But I think you're being a tad hasty, Steve. The bet was from you - Australia would win the double series outright, from me they won't. A win by England at the next Test and lunch is still on you........ that said I'm going to start scouting for places to eat in the Trent Bridge area. What sort of food do you like?
You don't give up, do you Pete? "I test drove Ferrari F40 chassis number 85690. A unique, race-winning example of only 16 recognised Competizione cars that were prepared for GT racing. This particular car is one of the most well known and widely documented F40s that competed in the Italian GT Championship, and was delivered new to Pierre Alexandre Popoff of Lerici, Italy in July 1990. Designer of the Mugello racing circuit in Italy, Popoff was a close friend of Enzo Ferrari. Popoff had ‘85690’ modified by Michelotto, including up-rating the engine to GT specification (circa 540-560bhp). Between 1992 and the end of the 1994 season, Popoff contested 27 Italian GT Championship races in this car, winning twice and finishing on the podium on seven other occasions." Take care
Nope. So if that's the spec, you really think a 348 could come close in speed? Why keep shooting yourself in the foot?
What a disgraceful team England have sent here ..... they couldn't beat a Bondi Beach eleven drunks, if they had any sense they'd have all left with Swann to avoid the humiliation
Moretti, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to defend them ....... so I'm not going to try. I'm more of a golfer than a cricketer, you see this happen in golf when a player's confidence is shot. It's understandable to an extent when it's an individual, when it's a whole national team you've got to start asking questions of their collective back bone as well as the management setup around them. I'm sure they'll be back (pretty sure, anyway) but I must confess, not being a total aficionado of the game like some here, I'm at a loss to explain how they've come from where they were mid 2013 to where they are today. Ideas anyone? I'm sure it's not totally one sided, sure your lot are playing better, but do feel the prime reason for the turn around is we seem to have forgotten how to bat ...... and bowl ....... and catch ....... and ........
It's always a confidence thing at this level and you could see it from day one here .... Australia played badly at times but England played worse, we'll gauge our team against the Sarth Ifrikaans , they don't give up so easily
Pete, the simple truth is England were not that good in mid 2013. I'm not being wise after the event - I certainly didn't predict this whitewash. But I did say at the time that England weren't actually very good. The results flattered them in a big way. They played one or two good sessions when they needed to, and we had poor periods in games when we needed to be good. And ALL the luck went their way through the entire series. But the signs were definitely there, and based on that I predicted an Australian victory in this series, albeit I expected it to be much closer with a result of 2-1 or 3-1. The most disappointing thing for me if I was an England supporter would be the total lack of backbone and fight in the team. They rolled over and gave up FAR too easily. It has been genuinely embarrassing. You don't mind your team losing as long as they put up a fight. And again, at the time after witnessing the Durham Test personally I said that although we lost, the signs for us were good. England need to sack the entire management team, starting with the utter goose who came up with that idiotic cookbook farce. As soon as our media got hold of that your team became a laughing stock. It was symbolic of what happens when you have too many "back-room" people with wanky management style ideas sticking their oar in to what is a pretty simple thing: a team of cricketers playing cricket.
Steve, think you're right, especially about the setup thing. But in the last series, whether England were better or just lucky is debateable. What isn't is that in this series it isn't even close. Oh well, bring on the Rugby. At least we don't seem to have totally forgotten how to play that game! .......yet
Poor Nosevi. As if owning a 348 wasn't bad enough, now this?? Q. What do you get if you cross the English cricket team with an OXO cube? A. A laughing stock. Q What is the height of optimism? A: English batsman putting on sunscreen. Q. What is the difference between an English batsman and a Formula 1 car at high speed? A. Nothing! If you blink you will miss them both. Q. What do English batsmen and drug addicts have in common? A. Both spend most of their time wondering where their next score will come from. Q. What does an English batsman who is playing in The Ashes have in common with Michael Jackson? A.They both wore gloves for no apparent reason. Q. What is the difference between Cinderella and the Pommy cricket team? A. Cinderella knew when to leave the ball. Q. What's the difference between the Pommy cricket team and a funeral director? A. A funeral director isn't going to lose the ashes.
I would answer that but I'm still sulking. Besides, I'm too busy looking for restraunts near Trent Bridge........
Well, I didn't meet Steve near Trent Bridge but safe to say I paid my debt to him in full. No thread about the current Ashes Series? Shame, if I recall, Steve was predicting a White Wash .........
The Aussie team hasn't turned up yet, if they do you're in for a thrashing The dropped Root catch was the turning point IMO, Haddin is looking to be on shaky ground but will probably save the next few tests for us. Steve drives a 355 therefore is delusional and has know eye deer what a good car is all about or what reality is
If they turn up? Thought this was an Aussi cricket team - I thought they had a bit more about them than that. As for turning points, I'm not sure there were any. Unless you count when the umpire said "Play" right at the start. Kind of looked like your lot were playing catch up most of the match. Anyway, was just wondering if Steve was still predicting a white wash. If your lot don't 'turn up' I might agree with him......... Only not quite in the sense he originally said it
HAHAHA!! I was actually wondering if I should do a 2015 thread. I'd booked my holidays around being at the Lord's Test (hence why I'm off for the next two weeks) but circumstances changed and I'm not touching down in London right about now... Fair play Pete. You did pay your debt in full - a wonderful day, even if the weather was typically awful But I don't recall making any predictions about the current series. moretti is the current champion of hopelessly unlikely sporting predictions around here (see F1 thread). But, I still predict we'll retain The Ashes.....
Maybe, but at least my 355 has a proper gearbox and has respectable provenance. A certain Mr. Ponting was the first owner of my car, whereas yours...... Well, you can drawer your own conclusions
Has Kimi beaten Vettel in F1 this year ................... yes, therefore you've already lost So, your car has been owned by a losing hairdresser ... that's provenace ??!! I would have falsified my car's records if I were you My car's history is easy, raced by several people, then bought by a tosser and soldto another tosser where it will stay forever
