And while we are talking tax and cars.. (and real estate) http://www.ato.gov.au/corporate/content.asp?doc=/content/00256561.htm reason is tbat the ATO is convinced that there is a large untapped pot of gold in undeclared private CGT liability. M
Read this, it clears up the 10K rule, essentlially for personal use assets and collectables. http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content.asp?doc=/content/36555.htm&page=1#P10_750 M
And here is the CGT exemption on cars. http://ato.gov.au/Super/content.asp?doc=/content/00208572.htm&page=12 Although one wonders if a car under certain circumstances could also fall under the classification of personal use assett ( ike a boat) M
Yes, that is all down to interpretation, but you have basically posted a link to an official ato website backing my original post.
Huh? Care to calculate the area of the two municipalities you highlighted versus the area covered by the rest of Melbourne within 10km of the cbd (and the cbd)? I've seen heritage plates everywhere. Maybe you're just not observant enough.
"In certain parts of town" My reference to the 2 local councils (" -type areas") was to inner city suburbs, obviously I'm not going to list every one in the inner city. My point on heritage plates not being all that common in general still stands - it's not like they have issued more of them since plates were issued. If anything, with population growth, statistically they will become less common throughout time. How many "new Euros over 57k" are there on the roads these days, and how many 3 digit heritage plates are there? If you have recently noticed lots of heritage plates now, maybe you weren't observant enough in the years before you started noticing them. Or maybe you have started to spend a greater proportion of your time in areas that are more likely to be populated with cars wearing heritage plates. Think about it ... just because YOU think something is common, does that mean it is common to everyone else? Let's step back and get some perspective here. As a contribution to the members here on fchat, you should take photos of all the 3 digit (or 2 or 1) heritage plates you see in a single day and post them here. I'd be interested in what you can (or cannot) show.
you see them all the time,in Kew or Toorak if its not single or double digit your regarded as a "try hard"
Rubbish. I've been a heritage plate enthusiast since I saw them on Carson's Law as a 4 year old. I'm spotted, not a spotter. RB, have you noticed an increase in the prevalence of three digit plates in Kew and Toorak in the last 5-10 years, or were they as common as muck in the 1970s and 80s as they are now?
in those days less were scene, one reason was that many were held by the State Government for there cars then years latter were sold of.
Yep. And the ones you did see were the ones that had been in families (or were on old cars) from the period they were issued. In recent years, they've become a status symbol, and Vicroads (and private holders) have cashed in on that in a big way. Now they're a common sight. Oh, and just because someone lives in Kew or Toorak and has a heritage plate on their car, that does not mean they only have business in those suburbs... people work all over the place. They drive to work. Their cars have heritage plates. Voila... cars with heritage plates are spotted all over the place.
once upon a time they were held by the same families for years my father had 87,130 and 221 for about 40 years, sold them when he lost interest in cars. Today its no big deal, most IMO heritage plates look crap on modern cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login
What, so you have a 3 digit plate and are complaining that you see them too often? You say: "Used to be a nice thing to spot... now one sees 20 a day" - does that mean you are NOT a spotter? Either you must like contradicting yourself ... or you have no idea. I don't know why you have so much hatred for those with 3, 2 or 1 digit plates... or hatred in general. If you really were concerned about how common they were, you would buy them all and lock them up so no one could see them! That'll show society how you feel! Oh, wait...
i think your about to be shot down in flames, nice try. But yes there everywhere heritage plates,I've got to the stage where I don't even look twice, bit like driving by ZAGS joint in Swan st ,I drive by it 6 odd times a week never look in the window, all those shiit heaps look the same to me.
So much crap and distortion in one post, I wouldn't know where to begin. 'It' must have received comprehension and debating lessons from Scud. Yep.
