I am happy to be corrected, but I don't think there are any original Ford GT's left in Australia. The car you saw was a replica, of which there are plenty, mostly nasty space-frame jobs that have nothing in common with the real car apart from the copy panels.
I've posted photos on aussieexotics... I'm no expert so please see for yourself - I'd be interested to know if it is actually real or not. http://aussieexotics.com/drivers/displayimage-4346.html http://aussieexotics.com/drivers/displayimage-4347.html
I always thought their was only 1 original GT40 in Aus... that being in S.A. Again, feel free to correct me
Just did a google search: http://www.gt40s.com/forum/race-track/16006-original-gt40s-australia-past-present.html I'm sure I read somewhere that JM also had a GT40 at one stage as well?
The one I saw did have SA plates. It was being serviced at a place on Glenferrie Rd, Hawthorn, which seemingly specializes in classic rally cars. I leave it to your collective wisdom to determine it's authenticity
I saw these two today parked beside each other in a corporate carpark... Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG with heritage plate [25] next to a Ferrari 360 Spider. I posted pics in case you'd forgotten what they look like: http://aussieexotics.com/drivers/displayimage-4350.html http://aussieexotics.com/drivers/displayimage-4349.html http://aussieexotics.com/drivers/displayimage-4348.html
following cars have been in Australia to my knowledge.P/1018 exO'neill,P/1030 ex Hyams,J.M ,P/1034 ex Parlby(think thats the D.B car) P/1061 ex Stillwell and the other car in QLD.
i too saw BAR 360, turning from swan st bridge onto city rd this evening in peak hr. amidst the peak hr grind and plethora of boring audi A4s and BMW X5s....it looked rather awesome as it belted by
Pap, heritage plates can also be issued in non-vitreous format, so they essentially look like normal aluminum plates with VIC on the side (I've even seen a four digit with VIC on the top of the plate... similar to black and white general issue).
ahhhh...ive wondered this, as ive seen a few 3-dig plates that looked like garden variety pentridge-pressings
In the 60,70s most plates were of tin as the owners while away o there value used them more as a add on .
Like [710] on the SL always parked in Toorak village - that one's white on blue if I recall correctly.
