A HUGE Thank You to Chris (Sefachotrodder) for the Hopslam!!!

You said yours were going bad, so I opened one last night. If that's bad then I couldn't imagine what fresh tastes like. I seriously believe it is the absolute best tasting beer I have ever had! Ever!

I'm gonna save the other one for the weekend since it still tastes fine to me.

    Thanks Chris, I owe you!

Oh boy, I just found this thread. There is nothing I like better than trying new beers. I go to school in MI so I will have to find that hopslam. When is it brewed?

Some of my favorites in no particular order
The 1888 Bock - a new one from leinenkugels that is fantastic
Anchor Steam - great taste, cool logo
Goose Island 312 - i have to have a hometown beer on my list
    Steigl - Fantastic Austrian beer
Big fan of guinness, can't have enough.
Bells Winter White Ale - great Belgium type beer
    I know I'm forgetting some.

    Great Thread!

I had the other Hopslam last night. It didn't have the same fruity flavor and smoothness of the other one. It also had more of a sharpness on the way down.

I'm really trying to only drink on the weekend.

I'm glad you got to experience it in all its glory the first time. Just think, it was already a month or so old when i sent it to you. Can you imagine it fresh?

I've concluded that i'm definately a DoubleIPA guy. I love them. I've not usually liked IPA's but i've been having a few recently and they have been quite good. I had Founders Centennial IPA and Stone Ruination IPA and both were quite good. I might pick up some Dogfish head 60 and 90 soon but i remember when i first had them i didn't like them at all. Then again, that was at the beginning of my beer "journey"

I can't even imagine it fresh. But I know it would be stellar.

    I like Dogfishhead. Good stuff.

Just picked up 2 6 packs of Sierra Navada Torpedo. Apparently this is the new benchmark IPA. This was posted on beeravocate earlier from someone at SN:

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________
After the flood of e-mails of support and questions regarding Torpedo and its availability, we see there is some confusion. Hopefully, this will clear things up.

The bottom line is we are selling a lot more Torpedo than we ever expected so we have been forced to allocate it until this fall when our new hop harvest arrives.
Orders are something in the area of 400% higer than we projected...

Sierra Nevada is one of the only breweries in the world to use only 100% whole-cone hops in our beer. Because of this, we are limited to what we can get and when we can get it... breweries that use pelletized hops or hop extracts are not nearly as constrained in their varietal choices and not quite as controlled by the whims of the harvest and the quality of the crops. The subtle flavor nuances and oils that people love in our Torpedo Extra IPA can only be achieved by re-circulating fermenting beer through whole cone hops in our hop torpedo. For over 28 years we have never taken short cuts when it comes to hops--having only used whole cone hops in all our beers this entire time--so lowering our standards was never a consideration.

From now until October (the new hop harvest) we are asking our distributors and retailers to only order what they absolutely need. We will still be producing, bottling and shipping Torpedo through then, but we can only accommodate about half the orders so there will be occasional out of stocks. Sorry for the confusion, and sorry to the folks who haven't had the chance to try it yet... We're working on it as fast as we possibly can.

    Cheers!
    -Bill

Today is a great day. Checkout what a local (at home here in PA) beer distributor had.....

They had a 1 case limit on Hopslam :(

I also found a place that ships to NJ that has Pliny the Elder (the best beer i've tasted in my life). Only problem is that its $140/case with $30 shipping :( They sell it in 6, 12 and 18 packs but even for the 12 (2 6 packs), its ~$70. It was an incredible beer but even i have to draw the line somewhere :D

Is that 59.99 a case? It better be as good as you claim for that.

I'd probably pay up to $90/case for it

The guy there was trying to sell me a case of 16(?) 22oz bomber bottles of another really good DIPA and that was $70

Did you see my edit about how much i was considering paying for the case of Pliny the Elder? ($170)

I finally tried Delirium recently. I wasn't paying--a friend felt the need to expose everyone to the beer, which at $8/snifter is a ripoff. But it was pretty delicious.

I dunno. I've been asking around and people are saying Hopslam is touch and go when it comes to keeping it long times. I'll probably go through it in about a month and a half. According to the "Fresh Before" date on the Nugget Nectar, i have 2 months for it :)

Which one? I had a tremens the other night (i have a case of it at home). I've also tried the Nocturnum and didn't like it at all

Bells Amber Ale is my all time favorite beer, followed by their Hopslam! I'm lucky to have been getting Bells beer since Larry Bell was selling it (if you knew the secret knock) years ago in Kalamazoo. :) I'm a lifelong fan.

I went to two different Spec's and couldn't find this. I don't believe I've ever seen it before.

I'll have to check some grocery stores. I searched Spec's website and all it has listed for Torpedo is in keg.

I did have Sierra Nevada ESB. It was okay, but nothing to write home about.

Saw a box of Torpedo, but alas they had something else in it. Seems they sold out of it pretty quick. Picked up a 4 pack of Dogfish head 90 minute IPA. Already had one, probably will have another before the night is out. Really good aftertaste. I'll have to search for the torpedo in Chicago this weekend.
