    Hi guys,

I'm new to the F-car world, but have always admired them. I was looking at getting either a 360 coupe or spid/cab. vs a new 430 coupe

Any idea what the better "value" would be?-- allow me to qualify that statement.... I am looking for a car that will depreciate the least out of these choices, with me driving it about 8-10kms per year...and which will have the lowest overall cost tp drive (when you factor in depreciation and maintenance)

    Cheers

do you mean they hold a greater % of value, or in total $$.

What are the modena coupes & cabs going for, and what are the best year(s) to buy?

    Thanks

spiders hold greater value, you can pick up a 99 360 coupe for just under 170,000 cdn, but I would go with the spider for a long term choice.

That sounds not too far away from a 430 coupe...wouldn't that be a better buy?

If you're worried about depreciation, get a 430 (if you can find one at list) since they're more likely to depreciate slower over the next couple years than the 360.

I don't think I'd be too concerned about maintenance costs on either car.

A good F355 won't depreciate like a rock either, but it'll cost you a bit more for maintenance.

Probelm is..You will not get a 430 for MSRP..you will likely have to throw another 75-100k on top, to put one in your drive way right now. 360 spider is a good choice for right now, but dump it by 2007 because they will start to fall, once more 430'***** the market.

Much better idea.......go get 4 new 430s at MSRP, flip them all straight away for $100k over list, and then go back and get any car you fancy for nothing!

OR do what everone else does, pay your deposit on a new 430.....and go home and wait.......3 years!

There are premiums for 430 currently for a VERY good reason......there's a 3 year wait for one! You WON'T get one at MSRP unless you join the 3 year queue!

So, either buy a 360, or a nice 355, or better still, sit down and ask yourself the following:
"if I have to concern myself so much with the cost of ownership of one Ferrari as opposed to another Ferrari......can I really afford a Ferrari at all?";)

Not everywhere. I believe the poster is from Western Canada. He could get a 430 coupe at list next summer.

The lowest cost of ownership, as discussed in another thread, is likely a 308QV or 328. The least depreciation is likely the car that cost the least, depending how many years you want to keep it. The higher they start, the more they'll fall - unless it's a classic/very-limited-collector.

I'd suggest buying what you like, and can afford to drive. V8's cost less than 12's to maintain, engine-out belt services cost more than 430's with chains, or 308/328's with engine in belt services.

Of your three choices, the 360 spider is likely to depreciate the least overall - but they've dropped $50k or so in the last 12 months with my unofficial gut meter. There's more 360's for sale right now than any other model, I'd expect prices to drop some more as the owner's 430's start to arrive. The 430 will probably hold it's value more consistently over the next 2-3 years, if you could get one close to list.

I appreciate all of the responses!

I must say that I always get a kick out of the "if you have to ask you can't afford it" crowd!--usually this is a salesman trying to appeal to someone's ego, or someone who the salesman managed to fool with that line, and they feel stupid admitting it--My version of this is "if you are not smart enough ask up front, then you deserve to pay stupid prices.

This is not intended to be a slight against anyone...Just my true feelings. I have been a consumer of high end merchandise for some time, and you can always tell the folks in a given store or dealership whose pride will get in the way of a smart business decision. Don't forget--the sales guy works for YOU....no matter how hot or crappy the product is. I have 2 friends that recently bought Gallardos (granted that these are not as hot as a 430)--both of them bought similarly optioned cars, and even after accounting for a very slight option difference, the one that couldn't bear to ask (for fear of bruising his ego paid $10K CAD more). Can he afford to pay $10k more? SURE..but if you have to throw $10K in the garbadge, I'd rather send it to some starving kid in africa then give it to my lambo sales guy. I guess it's just a principle thing for me.

As far as the 430's go..does the Vancouver dealer have them ready to go pretty quick?..and what's the MSRP?

    Thanks

It doesnt matter where you are. There is very few on the market right now, and dealers can change anything they want, because your not going to find one.
In about a year you might get one for list, but i'd actually be pretty surprised if that happens.
These cars have all been sold for the whole production run. You can't get on the list anymore from what i've heard.
