I read the entire thread last night before it went away.

I was shocked that Omar was implicated.

I did not then, and do not now believe that the hatred that was in that thread would come from him.

I'm sure Rob will get to the bottom of it, and then let us know what's going on.

Struck me that it was relatively naive kids, not only by the content, but by the apparent belief that their identities could not be determined. We do forensic work all the time in connection with hate crime, hacking and the like. Usually, the biggest barrier is obtaining the cooperation of the board where it appears. Presumably, that's not a problem here, where the threat of hacking was levelled against the site itself.
In Finland, we had to litigate all the way to the highest court there to obtain an order revealing the identities of users of an anonymous remailer. Turned out that the site was also being used for the proliferation of kiddie porn, so the work we did on behalf of a private client wound up helping to shut down a pretty bad operator.
I always love it when people who get snared in these things suddenly think that, by pretending it is a joke, the crime goes away. We got one guy, who levelled certain threats against a client on the Internet, convicted of a hate crime just before 9-11. (Had the incident come up thereafter, he probably could have gotten convicted of terrorist acts). In any event, he failed to show up for his sentencing hearing, and took a flier to Canada. I understand that he was ultimately denied asylum there, and is being deported back to the U.S. In addition to the prison sentence he will serve on the original crime, he will probably get charged with flight as a convicted felon, and could wind up serving much of the rest of his life in some nice government facility.
While law enforcement may look stupid to the outsider, they actually work pretty effectively, particularly when you can hand them the culprits on a silver platter. Nothing like shooting fish in a barrel.
I will not comment on the particulars here. Just noting that there is very little that people can do behind the veil of the Internet that is truly a secret.

 

Alrighty.... the thread is now in the mod section...... I have taken a look at it and the screen shots that appeared to implicate Omar have exonerated him.

The pics that were posted showing Auraptor looking at the threads also show the IP associated with whoever was logged in to the account at that time. I didn't get any matches when I searched for it, the only thing I get is c-69-181-244-53.hsd1.ca.comcast.net which I read to be from California. When I broaden the search out to 69.181. I get twelve matches that are fairly general in nature but can still be usefull. Of those twelve there are six that their profiles show as being from the San Fransisco bay area and two that look like they post at least occasionally in the Northern California section. I didn't bother trying to hunt down posts indicating locations of the remaining four.

For the sake of comparison here are a couple samples of Auraptor's IPs in recent posts, one from Saturday and one from Sunday:

24.115.100.18 and 68.33.110.99

Broadening the search on those IP's to compair with other users with similar IP's indicate that they originate in Pennysylvania and Maryland respectively which seems about right since I understand Auraraptor to be from those areas.

It looks like whoever was using Auraptor's account on Saturday was in the San Fransisco bay area and on an IP that is distinctly different from any IP's Auraraptor has had recently. This indicates a couple of things to me. The first is that it is highly unlikely that it was actually Omar using his own account though there are two slight possibilities. The first is he was spoofing the IP in some way and the second is that he flew to California for the day both of which I highly doubt.


Now for Gary Green........ The IP is 69.41.173.145 which has no matches, when I broaden the search I get a couple of random looking hits at 69.41. and the phonebook at 69.

I gotta say though that I think Omar is the ufortunate victim an account hijack.

Was this someone that posted in threads as Omar or just signed into chat as Omar (used his s/n)?

 

We talked about this before and all i have is one question, How was that drive Omar?

Well, you can sign into chat as anyone you want to. I just signed in as "anyone" and it let me right in. I have learned to never trust the s/n in chat.
