The 6th day of the 6th month was scant days ago... during the 6th year of the millenium. Obviously, the demons have been unleashed.

Should be interesting to see what happens leading up to 6-6-6 less than a year from now... not just here. I predict widespread stupidity.

 

The whole freakin' board is out of control this week! People, it's the INTERNET!! These people aren't your neighbors or your family, they're opinions in CYBERSPACE. I have friends here too, all the more reason to NOT freak out.

 

kenny - it happens with growth and age of users on a forum. I think it happens to most of us at one time or another and sometimes again and again. this isn't to say anything about a particular user at all, it is just in the nature of forums. growing pains as they might be, we all work through them in one way or another.

 

What's amazing is how interwoven it is with so many lives, and how personal it is for people.

For Rob and the mods, it must be like a big game of The Sims. Or Sim City, with the little fires and disasters to deal with constantly.

BINGO. F-chat is no different than real life- there will be immature behavior, people talking behind your back, bigotry, etc. If anyone EXPECTS the bar for morals, ethics or honesty to be higher just because it's f-chat, you will constantly be disappointed. Maybe those folks should spend more time raising the bar with people in their "non-cyber" personal life .....they probably would have better results via a face to face conversation than shaking a stick on the internet.

 

You know you are right. It is no different but does that make it right? And better yet from the owner of the site calling people names, threatening them you would think he would set a standard. Guess not

 

Everyone has their own criteria of "right" or acceptable standard (for those of us who work for someone, think about your boss. The one you thought was a nightmare might be the greatest to someone else.)

This scenario reminds me of my former drycleaner - an older woman who was crabby, unfriendly and downright rude in my book (mean as a snake would be a compliment). She was plenty busy with a thriving business so it didn't seem that others were as bothered by her style as I was. I decided to take my business elsewhere. Everyone has a choice whether to shop here or not.

I don't think Rob ever intended to sign up for the responsibility to "set a standard" that meets the criteria of every person on the board.

You are totally right up until the last sentance of your post. "I don't think Rob ever intended to sign up for the responsibility to set a standard that meets the criteria of every person on the board" I don't think he did either but now he has written rules that must be followed on this board or be banned and he has broken them on more than one occasion. Him being the owner does that make it ok to call you a dip****? Not in my book it doesn't and it really doesn't sit well either.

Brother Bruce calls me a pr!ck and a b*stard on a regular basis. I guess I know him well enough that I know it's a term of endearment. I read Rob's post dipsh!t post and for the most part, it registered with me the same as Bruces name calling does. I think we all sometimes forget that we don't really 'know' each other just because we communicate frequently on a message board. The problem with the written word is that you can't see facial expressions or hear voice inflections that you normally use to determine the level of malice in an exchange like this. I guess that's why we use smiley faces!

 

After meeting Tillman this afternoon. I can agree 100% with this. I can now see and hear him when I read his posts. He is a really cool guy.

 

Yes, he has written rules that he wants others to follow in his sandbox. I am fine with abiding to those rules as a condition of my participation in his website. It's not for me to tell Rob how or how he can't behave on his site.

I have rules that you can't wear shoes in my house or put your feet up on my coffee table. I will, however, wear shoes in my house and put my feet up on my coffee table. I may tell the person next to you that they can wear shoes in my house and you can't. If you don't like it, then stop coming over to my house. If it makes you feel better though, I won't call you a dip****.

 

Agreed, SpeedRacerette. To put it another way, this is Rob's playground, not a public park. People often forget that on the Internet. If the playground empties, Rob may change his attitude. If you decide to leave and build your own playground, more power to you!

You think that systematically banning and/or running off the core of users WHO ACTUALLY CREATED THE EXCITEMENT THAT RAISED YOUR (hobby) 5K MEMBER BOARD TO A 20K MEMBER REVENUE GENERATING BUSINESS makes sense?

Yes Rob, you have a nice little business now (and I'll be happy for you without you telling me to say it) but you might want to take a bit of advice from someone who has enjoyed a little success in life.....
