My last love: the Biturbo era Maserati Spyder Zagato 2.0 Just restored: 1990 model, fuel injected with power steering. ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks, Pav: just washed. Alcantara and black leather interior: unrestored but still quite good ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Were these ever available in the North American market? Not the first version, I see those for sale all the time, but the second "facelift" version.
I don't know, but I suppose they were. Maybe they exported the 2.8 liter version instead of this 2.0 liter for the Italian market. What I know is there was a 2,8 liter RHD in the U.K. as this picture clearly shows, a twin of my car. The power was the same, 223 HP (3 valve engine) ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, the USA got some Spyders like the op's car between 1989 and 1991. There's actually two on Ebay right now. 1989 Maserati Spyder -- | eBay 1900 Maserati Spyder Biturbo | eBay I think Maserati departed the USA market before the last version of the Spyder with Gandini's "nuovolook" restyled front end came along.
WOW! That is really spectacular! The 2.8 litre came to the US. The European version had much nicer from air dam and rear treatment. I will be posting some pictures of mine soon. I just rebuilt the hydraulics, clutch and brake, and changed the timing belt.
this second (and half) serie has the Zagato badge on the two sides. (car here was before the restore, many small imperfections) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, those two are the 1987 model with the small bumpers and without the power steering. My one is the Gandini restyling (I suppose), a quite rare (very good ) version produced just for one year. My one costed 35 k euro after the service and a small restore: seals, some paint, full engine and supension service, electrical service ans some details (here in Italy at 17 k you just buy an a verage car that requires 30 k of work to be like mine) ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow... such a beautiful car... I think all of us appreciate your efforts in preserving such a fantastic example
I see now how the bumpers are different! Thanks for pointing that out. It looks like the later USA cars got the revised seats and wheels, but not the bumpers.
Most of Spyder were built for export, so they were 2.5 and 2.8 liters: More or less 2100 cars of the 2779 built during Spyder production life (ten years, from 1985 to 1994). The cars like mine should be less than 300: More or less no more than 200 2,8 liters and no more than 100 two liters. Ciao
The only engine Maserati did not put in the Spyder was the 2,8 24v. engine. That engine in that little car is a rocket. A friend of mine has one in Sweden with about 500 horsepower....
Ciao Alberto, Congratulations a very nice car, though red is not my preferred colour. Here one in midnight blue - a 1991 model 2,8 liters - not many have been imported to Austria when new. This car is not restored but in very good manner - always well maintained. I am the second owner and I have done a new interior with original leather NOS (found by the neighbour of the "officina" that serviced your car) and with new original Alcantara. The car drives phantastically, molto commodo ma molto potente. Are you member of the Italian Biturbo Club ? Maybe we can meet during my next stop at Modena - this spring or summer ? Have a lot of fun with your Biturbo. saluti Alfredo Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Alfredo, congrats for your fantastic car: Very nice color, thanks to sharing. The Spyder by Zagato is a great model that combines luxury with performances and comfort. I think we own the best model year, the 90-91. I'm very happy to own one of those great cars. I'm not a Biturbo Club member, but we can meet the same! Ciao
Given the chassis, brakes and cowl shake in that car that sounds suicidal! 300 HP is plenty and quite achievable and it's still a rocket.
My one has "just" 223 HP and I think they are enough to enjoy an almost 30 years old car: I'm very satisfied of the strong power output starting from 3500 RPM Thank you very much! ciao
pictures at Candini mechanical shop were taken February 27, 2017, two days after buying the car. The Campana body shop pictures were taken on March 3, 2017, just some days later. ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Reminds me a lot of Classic Coach in Elizabeth NJ. Candini found me a brand new 2.0L V6 piston for Ghibli Open Cup engine a few years ago. Usually you have to buy the piston, liner and rings as a set which I didn't need because I was having all the liners refinished. Thanks Enrico!
I have all the tools, pouch, jack and manuals but I don't have the inspection light: do I need an inspection light? The 90-91 had it? And If I need one, which one?Are all the same for 1985-1994 models? Thank you very much ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Yes, the Spyder is a Zagato too. Maybe one of the cheapest way to buy a six cylinders Zagato today. In my opinion it's a great value for money and a very pleasant and very nice car. The injected models work very well too, without the big problems the early (carbed) models had. ciao
