This may be covered somewhere else, but I cannot seem to get the search correct. I have a 77 308 GTB, and the black strip in the groove down the side of my car is coming off on the door. I was wondering where I might be able to get a replacement stripe that I could install myself, instead of having to pay a body shop a thousand dollars to do a hour job. Any suggestions?

    Thanks....

The black stripe is done in semi- gloss black paint. These were NEVER decals from the factory and some people even put protruding bump strips in the groove. If your stripe is peeling you can mask the area, sand it down with fine sandpaper and re-paint is with 'trim black' available at any auto parts store in a rattle can. For a perfect match do the whole side of the car however a good prep and paint should not take more than a couple of hours. Good luck with it.

I used black electric tape and it worked very well : perfect width, perfect flat black tone , self adhesive and very forgiving! Give it a try ($1.25) but first clean the groove with alcohol based cleaner. Good luck.

Thanks, I'll check out the black paint, and see if I can do it myself. Hate to have anything such as that stripe peeling.

I have some type of thick tape on mine. It is like a thick vinyl . I have seen this advertised on ebay in the past but don't remember the seller. I would bet if you went to a body shop they would be able to tell you what can be used instead of paint.

+1 I did the same thing on my other car and lasted for over 5 years. I just simply pilled the old one then clean and dry thoroughly and reapply fresh tape, good for another 5 years:)
