Exactly, this is a car chat board, not the UN!! We are not solving the world's problems here. I for one, after a long day of working my ass off and dealing with a lot of idiots in business enjoy reading some downight, funny, childish, crazy potty-humor! So what? Is it intellectually beneath most of us from an age standpoint? Sure it is, but so what. How many of us here are over the age of 21, or 31 for that matter, and still laugh at childish, campy movies filled with scatalogical humor? Many I am sure.

Bring him back. IMO he balanced the board.

Anyone who takes insults on this board seriously enough to get offended needs to take a long drive in their Ferrari and realize that ITS 'JUST' A WEBSITE. This is supposed to be a fun place, and if someone here seems to not like you (this can easily happen when there are ~6k members) then deal with it, take a deep breath, and dont talk to that person.
The whole flaming deal is funny to me because the involved parties get so riled over nothing. Grow up people.

"Ahoy! Capt. Common308Owner, we've just sighted the Great White Lambohead off the starbord bow! What's the orders. Sir?"

"Aye, good work mateys! Load all the explosive vocabulary and grade school insults into Torpedo Tube #1, and we'll give it to him all at once"

    "Yes, Sir, right away, Sir!"

The great ship heaves into the wind, sails luffing slightly. Sheets straining against the sails, as the Flags of State flutter in the breeze. All falls silent, as eyes strain to catch a glimpse of the telltale water swirls indicating the great beast breaking the surface of the placid sea.

After moments of anticipation, the silence is broken by the bosun's cry:

    "THERE! .................HE BLOWS!"

"Fire One!" commmands Captain Common308Owner, his eyes gazing out to sea. "...and make it good!"

"DIRECT HIT, SIR! WE'VE FINALLY GOT THAT GREAT WHITE %^%%$^%$"

"Good work, mates. Come about and prepare to bring the beast aboard. He's long overdue, into a cat food can."

As Captain Common308Owner tosses his line back in the ocean, he calls to his mates.

Well I guess its my turn to spout off...
As far as old timers go, I have probably been around FerrariChat as long as anyone, although my post count does not reflect it.
And while I don't consider myself to be a highly respected member of F-Chat... Yes I take the bait sometimes, and my apologies to those I have offended over the years ...
I try to post relevant issues in the tech section,
and help trouble shoot problems with Ferraris.
In Allen's case, his sole purpose with most of his posts seems to be one of jabbing a stick into a hornets nest.
I even checked one of his links, before I knew what NWS was.
Look, I enjoy a woman's body as much as, or even more than other guys,
but I don't need Allen's, or anyone else's help for that matter finding porn.
If I want to look at porn, there are plenty of sites out there for it,
I don't need to see it, or links to it on F-Chat.
Its bad enough trying to wade through all the posers here that claim they have owned 20 Boxers, yet don't know where the oil drain plug is on their car,
let alone put up with the hogwash that Allen has been posting over time.
    Bottom line... Bye Bye Allen!

Rob, this is a place of business
It's your right as the owner of the business to ask an unruly patron to leave.
I would hope that if it came down to it, I would get a warning first,
But if I ever become like Allen, please have the balls to boot me as well.

    Dave

this banning stuff is kind of crazy. if ur loud and obnoxious you get banned? i dont think allan started half the crap in the threads. he may have set the bait but most of the personal attacks were started by other against him. just go look at the past threads. it was only after people started flaming him that he shot back.

starting a thread saying the gallardo is better than the 360 is not a reason to call him a '***'. how would you expect him to respond. he has posted many many valuable posts including pictures and video's. 'we' just banned a ferrari/lamborghini owner who has many years experience with different exotics. and most of the posters participating in the flame wars with him have never even driven a ferrari much less owned one.

as far as the other board goes, he hardly posts there at all, nor does he solicit anybody from here to go over there. so how is that a conflict?

if you don't like him DON'T read his posts. but as you know, most of his threads started long, often funny, controversy. is this board supposed to be for warm and fuzzy posters only?

i dunno, i think the community is far worse off without him. different personalities and viewpoints are what makes things interesting.

it's your board rob...............but i think it was a mistake.

Living free of squalor and hate is not sanitizing. If Iraq had less hate and squalor, there would be less of a problem. It is called humanity, courtesy, respect, and responsibility...You got'em, no problem! You don't, get 'em or live in squalor and hate elsewhere. Nothing is 'diluted' or 'sanitized'. And it is not about America/free speech, or censorship. It is a community...do the dishes, take out the trash, flush the toilet, and help those who can't, not berate them for 'perceived deficiencies'.

FWIW, post waawaawaa/whines at will ;)

Odd and amazing kinda. And 11,500 of des/dan/sickspeed/carbon/no's posts are useless as well. I'll give the last 1000 or so posts of his as ok since some people liked some of his "stories".

If allen was working for the "competitor" and getting paid to harass well thats a new one. I dont think he was living off that "check".

I haven't seen a good James Bond Movie in years now. Its because the "bad guys" have been too weak. Took me a while to pick up on the idea that getting the bad guy just-right is the hardest part of making a Bond film truly fun to watch.

If you want entertainment with your daily dose of car info, Allan will be missed.

What happened to Allan is censorship. Plain and simple. It almost seems like it was censorship motivated by monetary concerns. Who knows exactly why, but it was censorship.

I think banning should be reserved for fraud issues, not censoring free speech.

FWIW, My opinion of F-chat has been lowered because of it.

If you don't want to hear someone, just put them on your ignore list.

I wouldn't just ban him like that, he's had several temporary bans over several years and multiple off line conversations to give him opportunity. Everyone knows his personality and so I guess no one is surprised he didn't change. As I told Allan this morning, you are good for some things, but not good for where we're taking FerrariChat.com.

What I guess I meant was die hard supporters that would choose Allan at all costs over FerrariChat.com. I think there are 50% at least that liked and respected much of who Allan was, including me. We're not going to loose many long time true Ferrari people over this. We have and would of lost true Ferrari people by him staying. I can understand everyone’s support from a user perspective, but my decision wasn't based on that.

Giving someone hundreds of chances and then being told to "F Off" is the end of the line, many would argue I let it go on too long.

My take is that FerrariChat.com is WELL on its way to becoming a highly regarded source for Ferrai information and discussion in the Ferrari world. This site is still an infant in the scheme of things.

This is Rob's world, and he can create whatever rules he wants. He obviously would not have taken these steps without being pushed to do so.

Imagine if you were a member of a golf club were this one member did nothing but go out of his way to complain about the course and the people who frequent it. After many warnings and mild punishments don't you think that repeated attacks and worthless comments eventually detract from the site?

He may have been a decent golfer (I know, the analogy is being stretched), but his attitude and disdain for the course keeps valuable prospective members from joining. The image is tarnished, hence the DQ.

This place is too valuable for one member to give outsiders the impression that his actions are a clear reflection of what this place is all about.

NNO did not get a FREE ride! Read my posts in Silver. I'm getting pissed off at people who are thinking this without even asking me about it. At least Tillman and Sherpa asked me before making a wrong assumption. This is how crap gets started!

His Lambo side was a consideration and maybe why he lasted as long as he did. However, with 100-200 other Lamborghini owners on FerrariChat.com I think we have plenty of balance.

I think have to disagree with you. :) Problem is we have hundreds of users that aren't mature or experienced enough with the internet to deal with Allan. Easier to hit one than hundreds. His risk and negative impact far outweighs any value he added. I do agree that those that battled with Allan aren't any better in comparison, so now that he is gone we'll find out which users were bad just because of Allan or bad just because they're bad.

Banning going crazy? 6,000+ users and Gary Green, Mako, and Allan are the main bannings? That isn't very bad. JRV bans a user a day and he only has 50 users total. :) How tolerant are other communities? I much rather error on being too tolerant and maybe that's why I let this go on for years.

Overall from a community and business aspect Allan was a liability. No valuable users will be lost long term because Allan is gone, but many will be retained by getting rid of him. This is a board for Ferrari enthusiasts. It should mostly be a stress free and positive experience for that target market. There are plenty of other sites that target other topics where Allan will be welcomed. I wish him the best.

Count me as one who will stay. I know who cares. Allan was NOT providing anything except anomosity on this board. I didnt sign up to get into fights between L and F cars. I just wanted some advice on my 308.

Thanks to all of you who have helped.

Free Speech give me a break! This is not the public street corner, if you dont like the rules Exercise your freedom and leave! Otherwise allow us to develop rules that will create an enviroment for F-car enthusists not bashers. Create your own site that is what YOU want.

PS: Rob, you are the MAN, your doing great! Keep up the excellent work! And thank you for allowing me the opportunity to converse with fellow F-car enthusists.

A lot of you that decry Rob's decision and claim unwarrated censorship are yourselves to immature to live in a world without it. A world without censorship does not work unless its citizens (in this case Fchat members) are
mature enough to handle it. In other words, it does not imply that a free-for-all college dorm type atmosphere is OK. A modicum of decency is required and Allan clearly doesn't possess it.
This board is a business to Rob and he certainly doesn't claim a monopoly on this type of product. If you want to, go open your own "Ferrari and F***ing chat" forum.
The board members here also don't work in a democratic envrionment, this a benevolent dictatorship and it works well in that form.
If any of you claim one of your main sources of entertainment was Allanlambo, you have some serious problems.

This issue has been looked at through many glasses... the trolling aspects, the business aspects, the behavioral aspects, etc.

As a computer geek by choice and trade, I also see the technical aspect of it. I'm a fairly young guy who has had the benefit of growing up with computers. I was on the old BBSes, then the usenet discussions, and a million different web forums. Demographically, most Ferrari owners and enthusiasts, I would imagine, have not. The world of online discussion forums have certain nuiances that are never immediately understood by those who aren't used to them. There's a pretty big learning curve.

I can see how Allan could turn off the entire online discussion experience to someone who is within the learning curve... and those are just the people this forum would like to see join. Sure, everyone knows about bullies, but online bullies are a little different; it's very easy to hide behind a computer screen and cause havoc with very little effort and even lesser reprocussions.

That said, ignoring someone online is much easier said than done for a newbie. I would imagine that many of the people interested in this site would be logging onto their first online discussion forum. If my assumption is incorrect, I apologize.

For the good of the continued growth of the community, I completely support Rob.
